I went fishing with some friends last weekend at the Sylvan beach pier. This was my first time fishing, and my friends 2nd or 3rd time. We fished from 6am till 1pm. I caught a nice sized flounder and a few small throwbacks. My friends only managed to catch lots of throwbacks. We used live shrimp until we ran out, and then switched to dead shrimp. I caught the flounder using dead shrimp and weight for bottom fishing. One of my friends has been back twice since then and still hasnt managed to catch anything but small throwbacks. We are planning to go back next weekend. Any advice on catching something other than throwbacks would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It is up to timing and weather . In coming tides are a big factor . Night fishing is best at that pier because the lights attract bait fish . Incoming tides helps a lot 4 tides are a big plus . always check weather if windy go to a movie . Muddy water = trash fish . If using live bait fish around pilings . Ask the camp owners whats is going on and what they recommend.

Wind is not as bad as I thought it would be.....small chop compared to some days ive seen it.....the water is off color right now and if the winds pick up, it will turn to chocolate....

I cant wait for this wind to die down!!!!.... Its been blowing for two months straight!!!

Tight lines, man!!!

I hear they are back to overnighters on the weekends, that is good to hear.

I went there a few times right after it opened. I usually fish bottom and lost a bit of tackle fishing the right hand side, so I stayed away from that side. There's something down there and it seems to go out toward the end of the pier.

I won't go back there, or at least for now I won't. After they started night time fishing, they closed at 10pm. One my first night time trip, they turned off all the lights at around 950 pm, without warning. Luckily a security guy was on the pier and he had a flashlight..........but still. I went back a week later and at 930pm, one of the deputies got on his loud speaker and told us to clear the pier for closing. So my fishing was over about 20 minutes before closing. On both occasions, there were only 2-3 people fishing.

You can have Sylvan.

I'm always catch and release, except for cut bait.

The right side is where the old pier used to be, there is a lot of structure out there, there is also a pipe going out there which has become a "reef" so to speak. Lots of hang ups, but lots of fish also.

I haven't experienced the closing thing, maybe I was lucky. Right now from what I hear the weekend all night openings are back in full swing, haven't tried them yet, but am looking forward to soon.

Does anyone know how busy it is during the week? I am probably going to head there tomorrow morning.
