Hey guys, I've never fished much with Zoom's brush hogs until this year and now I am completely in love with them. 95% of the time when I'm using one I fish with the baby brush hogs, and I've rarely tried the "standard size" brush hogs.

What are your opinions/experiences with each?.....and which one do you fish with more often?

I normally use the big ones. However, I fish Fork usually. Sometimes I use the baby one though.

They both have their places. Just got to match the bait to the forage.

Smaller brush hog = more hits. That risks being an oversimplification, but that's the gist of it.

...and yeah, big fish will hit small baits.

The baby is becoming my go-to bait to put fish in the boat. Fill your limit with the baby and then cull with the full size!

I think any bass worth trying to get to bite will bite a full sized brush hog. A 14 inch fish would have no problems with a 6 inch brush hog. I'm guessing if everything was equal, you'd probably get more hits on a baby, but your quality would suffer compared to the full size.

And really there isn't much length differiance between the 2 but the brush hog is bulkier.

It has a lot to do with the rate of fall differential also.
The brush is considerably heavier and drops much quicker.
The baby will glide slowly down, seems to be better than lizards or any craw baits.

Do you downsize in hook size with the baby brush hog?

I use the big one. Never had any problem catching 14" fish or 5 lbers on them.

Just depends on the situation. If bites are hard to come by, use the Baby.

Yes definitely. I use a 3/0 Owners EWG. Depends on the situation though. The standard BH adds weight to the cast but provides more volume (eg. more buoyant force) to counter act the bullet weight giving a slower fall rate for flipping or casting to trees. I have seen where that matters and had to adjust down on weight size in order to get bit. Subtle difference.

I like the baby brush hog those clear tough days when downsizing is in order. Its also small enough to work well on a drop shot rig. IHMO.
