Loading my boat solo, I had the bright idea to jump from the boat to the lowered tailgate on my chevy truck. You know the tail gate cables that they recalled! Both of them snapped and I crashed hard ending up bouncing off the tailgate then the trailer ending up upside down in the water with my shoe string caught on the crank handle. After I untangled my beaten self, I stripped down to my boxers, took a bow to everyone at the ramp and got in my truck and drove off. My pride was the last thing that hurt that day.

my partner usually takes the winch off, but leaves the safety hook on ... and its got some slack.... so i can get about 3 feet off the trailer and get a little momentum going before it jerks me and the boat out of our shoes.... then he gets a cussin'

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. ~John Buchan

last year I drove to the lake with my bass buster on a trailer, just had a trolling motor to power it. Got it in the water, went to get my gear....the one thing missing in my truck....yep, the trolling motor. I wasn't happy about reloading the boat and driving back home to get the motor (only a few miles but still frustrating). I got back and caught nothing, so I went several days just knowing the fish were biting in that small window I missed.

My partner and I were laughing all morning at the idiot at the boat ramp that was trying to start his rented boat on shore to get it warmed up before he put it in the water. I said that I was pretty sure no one could be that dumb. Later that day after fishing a cove we hope in to go and I try to start the big motor and hear an awful sound! Look back and the motor was up. SOB that was dumb.

I've gotten home, unhooked the trailer, jacked it up off the ball and then have it roll sideways and snap the breakaway safety cord for my brakes that I forgot to unhook!

taken the transom saver off and laid it on the back of the boat and forgotten about it and had it slide into the lake when I backed the boat down the ramp.

tossed my cell phone onto the deck only to have it bounce over the side of the boat (also had the same fate to pliers as well)

Well, picked up my boat from the dealership about 11am in the morning, First time I'd been in a boat for over 15 years. I just HAD to get out and go fishing that day.

1st mistake) go alone on my first attempt and not go out with the dealer for an "intro" ride etc

2nd mistake) choose harbor one at EM as the first place

3rd mistake) never put plug in, didnt put it in the first two times out! Thank goodness for the bilge pumps on my triton....

4th mistake) ASSUMING I can winch the boat back on the trailer at harbor one without powering onto it. Yup, i got it close and tried to hand crank a 21ft bass boat onto my trailer at freaking harbor one marina........ bang

5th mistake) managed to get boat on trailer but off center on the bunks, so embarrassed I drag the skeg up the ramp as every spectator cringes..

6th mistake) boat not centered on bunks, back it back down to center it as my "audience" awaits my next move. Get it straight with motor up this time and think I'm set for good!

7th mistake) halfway home and looking in the mirror wondering why the bow of the boat is bouncing then realizing that I was a good 12+ inches shy of the bow roller. Thank god I remembered to at least strap it all down.

All this my fellow TFF'rs in the time frame of 3 hours. That's 3 hours from dealer hand off to my boat ramp meltdown.

Somewhere on here is a reader who was there that day I'm sure of it. Deep in their memory is the day the guy with the beer gut and the shiny new triton doing every thing possible wrong..

Lesson learned) Take the "intro" and demo trip from your dealer if the boat is very new to you! rolfmao

Ran out of gas and then ran out of oil on two separate rescue missions the same day at a national championship on Pickwick, and I was the rescue boat.

Well, I have a swing away tongue, leave the pin on the arm so I don't forget it. One day drove all the way to the lake, noticed my boat was a little "off-centered." Got out and sure enough, forgot to put the pin in to keep the tongue locked. Lost the pin and had to use a socket set wrench to lock the tongue in place. It was a miracle that the boat did not sway out to the side on the way to the lake.

Ordered 2 pins the minute I got home so I have a spare for the next absent minded episode!!!

Saturday I loaded my boat to hard and snapped the metal holding up the bow mount....

Earlier this year fished my first individual tournament ever.....forgot to put the plug in....banked my boat and waited for tournament to start...getting ready to take off and notice my boat was filling up with water....jumped in the water to put the plug in and the water temp was 46 degrees and the back of the boat was sitting in deep water....had to completely submerge myself to put the plug in....Same day I ran out of gas on the water

Ran out of oil once and motor shut down in protection mode....could only idle back.....list goes on!!

My buddy Billy was casting a little george lure and he hit a honey hole of sandies. After catching a dozen or so he hung up his lure and lost it. so then a partner says i got another one in my box you can use it. so he proceeds and after a few cast he's getting bites and can't set the hook right. He even got a few near the boat and loses them. The other guys are hauling them in. Billy's determine to catch some more and trys different tatics with the same lure and nothing after an hour the bite turned off the other guys are high fiving each other and Billy pulls in his lure and grabs it to hook up on his rod guide. When he discovers the lure didnt have a hook.
