Bought ready to throw the 898si and 797si off the boat, into the lake...

Forget running in rough water, they shut down. Both are on Ram Mounts, suggest by Ram Mount, and they are constantly losing power connections.

And there is no fix, except glue? Come on man!

Its a dandy problem running along at night in dangerous conditions wanting to use the GPS and it shuts off...

Probably fixing to make the jump to HDS because Lowrance was
smarter, ALOT smarter about their cable connection designs..

Never have that issue with either my 1197 or 958. It will shut off on low voltage everyonce and a while while cranking the big motor after not having it running for a while.

The power connection is simply two male ends that connect to female ends. Unplug it and just ever so slightly bend the male ends out...well in this case you would bend one up and one down.

Do you have the cable collector assembly that holds all the wires together? If not that will probably fix your problem right there.

I will agree that the power connections are very loose. When I had issue with some firmware and was moving the units back and forth for trouble shooting I noticed how loose they are.

Thats what I would suggest too.

You have to direct wire the unit to the battery with a 3amp fuse. If wired under the dash to a power circut and you get a surge it will shut off. Mine did the same, I direct wired them and have never had the proble. Humminbird and Lowrance recommend direct wiring.

They actually come loose at the unit itself...I like the idea of bent prongs...

Gonna give it a try.

do you not have the cover that holds all wires together and screws in? If you don't then that will fix your problem, I can't rip out my cords if that screw is connected smile

Both going off? Sounds like your boat wiring.

If they are both going off simultaneously, then the problem may be somewhere else. If it is in the connector, you might try spraying some CorrosionX on it.

I don't know quite how to explain this but I had a similar problem. 997 on the console and a flush mounted 797 on the bow. I dropped the 797 in the hole with the wires plugged in and it was constantly losing power/connection. what I didn't realize was that the little mounting kit for a quick snap on bracket would also maintain my connections. The reason I didn't put it on was I didn't appreciate that it might really perform something for me that I would really need and that is maintaining electrical connection. For some reason I also didn't feel like it would fit in the hole and that it would just be more junk in the way. When I installed that bracket it secures the connections also and I haven't had any more problems and I have been in some really rough water several times since then.
So the moral of the story is if you have the 797 flush mounted without the quick release snap on bracket you may always have power issues.

Thanks,
Steve

It is very frustrating! I have bent mine and it helps for a while. But I think they need to find a better fix then that! Are they going to replace my cord when the pins break after all of the bending?

???? I don't follow, there is a screw lock on the housing. Seems like you guys aren't putting the cables in the housing correctly. What am I missing?
