just spoke with the national park service and they stated that starting this week a large portion of castle canyon and spur 406 (california creek) will be closed to assist in the fire fighting efforts in Mexico. A Martin Mars which is the largest fire fighting aircraft in the world will be landing and moored on the water in castle canyon until the fires are under control.

The Park service also stated the plane will be flying down and scooping water on the Mexican side and to pay attention to the audible warnings from helicopters who will be clearing the path for him to dive down and scoop the water.

So if your planning a trip down keep in mind the sections of the lake you wish to fish. They are also unclear as to the total amount of water they plan to take so not sure the effect on water levels in the areas they will be scooping from but with 70,000 acres it should not impact the over all lake level drasticly and there are still plenty of areas that will be open and productive.

as always if you need a hand or have any questions about Del Rio and Lake Amistad, wether you book with me or not feel free to give me a call on my cell at your convenience as my family have been helping people make the most out of their trips for over 30 years!

Respectfully,

Jc Gwynne

Better tell those snorkel and scuba divers to be careful -- hate to get scooped-up and dropped somewhere in Mexico.

I don't think there is enough airplane fuel to scoop enough water to change the lake level.
I would like to see that plane working!

I just don't understand the U.S.
We are putting the worlds largest fire fighting plane on the American side of our lake to fight a fire in Mexico, instead of putting the plane on Possum Kingdom and fighting our own fires.
Doesn't make sense.

Taking 5 to the weigh-in occurs when opportunity meets successful execution of one's preparation.

This airplane is owned by a private company and actually is based out of Canada. I don't think the US Government has very little to do with it. I am sure the Mexican Government is paying a hefty price for its assistance.

Ask them to drop a bomb down in the back of the Salines on Falcon to take care of some cartel trash.
