My only chance to fish this year is first two weeks of August. Looking for charter boat from Port A, would drive to South Padre Island if there is something available there. Dolphin Dock has 80 hour, but prefer not to fish them. Scat Cat doesn't schedule that far out. Open charter or a group needing to add two guys would work. Is there a boat that runs 2 or 3 night trips from South Padre? How about someone charter master a trip then? I don't know enough yet to attempt to put a charter together.
Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

no party boats outta SPI for the floaters but Dock Holiday will do a six-pack....... sometimes they need a coupla extra anglers http://www.dockholidaycharters.com/fishing-offshore-drilling-rigs/they basically run an out-and-back 36hr trip but you could probably negotiate what you want if you need someone to 'chip in' look me up here..... i might be interested........ every-once-in-a-while i like to hop on someone else's boat so i can get in a little fishing too insteada just being the captain on my own boat i've been out there in august and caught easy limits o'YFT but they've always seemed to've run a bit smaller than what i catch earlier in the year....... blackfin?..... you'll get sick of'em i mostly go for the marlin but it's tough when the doggone yellerfin keep sucking down my lures when i'm trolling

Contact member "TOO" and send him a PM. He does stuff like that. That is an excellent suggestion, he was the first guy I contacted. Love those trips the best.

Mr. Bill or is it Mr. Fisher? :-)
the 36 hour sounds interesting, I will look them up after church. SPI boat ride to floaters could be much shorter than Port A boat ride, yes? I would think especially for perdido. I would think the opposite I sure wish the pesky Marlin would stay off so I could catch something to eat.
Would enjoy fishing with you, but beware we know very little about trolling and not much more on head boat fishing, we are good guys though.

Capt'n, Bill, Bwana Bill, Mr Fisher,..... whuddever there's more rigs closer to port A but i don't know how many if any are floaters...... and yes, SPI is-as-close-as you can get to perdido from any port we catch our tuna at night jigging, popping, and chunking, then troll in the morning...... the tuna bite usally goes on for quite a while in the morning before it lets up

and oh yeah,...... i've never been but it sounds like those rigs outta port A have a conga line of boats circling'em every night where at peridido we're usually the only ones there or at most see only one other boat on an overnighter
during a tournament tho you'11 quite a few more

Out of Port A you need to run about 40+ miles to get outside the crowded waters. Also, the water beyond 40 miles will hold Tuna here and there. The nearest floaters to Port A are gonna be the same ones that everybody out of Galveston and Freeport are running to. So, yeah, they get crowded. Perdido is far south that it just doesn't attract the same attention.

Best trips I have had were to perdido, you are right about the number of boats at the other rigs. I have not been to Magnolia on the big e, but won't fish them, they support IFQs. thanks for the help gentlemen.

An IFQ is an "Individual Fishing Quota" where the government gifts a portion of our public trust resource to an individual for his personal use to sell, lease, trade, whatever. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individual_fishing_quotaPrivatizing our resources is not American. Essentially it gifts a PUBLIC resource (yours and mine) to individuals who then can lease, sell or fish their gift and often become wealthy because we have to pay their price to catch their fish that we (our government) gave them without our permission and free of charge.

Well, I like fishing on the Big "E" but you have to consider the source.
The current ownership is not anything near like Elliott Cundief was. The current ownership took the vessel out of the fishing arena for some time and refitted it as a dive boat. Now I have no knowledge whatsoever what sort of dive activity the Big "E" is entertaining but I am willing to wager that the boat does more fishing than diving. Their support of IFQ's shows that they still don't think like fishing people.
It is my understanding (but not verified) that the Big "E" and the Captain John are the only two "head boats" supporting catch shares.
I can't say that I won't fish with either again but I prefer not to.

Wow. I knew that about Capt John but not BigE. Not questioning you Bobby, but where did you get the info?
