Ive been considering why male crappie turn dark during spawn. Is it because they want better concealment in the shallow water? ( tend to catch the males in the shade)> or darker water..Is it because they want to look more aggressive to scare off predators that will eat the eggs and fry? Is it a chemical reaction because thier ready to mate? I know certain species in nature such as male birds wilt and get beautiful bright colorful plummage in the spring,, in order to attract a mate.

Nope! Just know I hate the spawn season. Ready for it to be over. To many rookies on the lakes and ramps for me.
