I've enjoyed reading the many saltwater posts over the years and I finally get another chance to get down to the coast for a weekend of fishing. I hope to make it down in the next 2-3 weeks weather permitting.

I'll be bringing my boat and was hoping someone could suggests an inexpensive place to stay as well as locations for the boat launch. Any info on places to fish would also be welcomed, thanks.

Stay in Anahuac in one of the cheap motels and launch down at the Fort Anahuac Park. You can access the entire trinity/galveston bay system from there including the HL&P spillway. Sugestoins nearby:

Smith point and East Bay reefs, Jack's Pocket, Spillway, Trinity River channel spoils..... lots of fishng to be done. Bait can be had in Anahuac at the Lazy Pelican. http://www.lazy-pelican.com/

You can also pick up a fishing map there that is a great guide to the bay system.

If you can cast a cast net there is plenty of places to pick up your own bait too. Lots of grass edges will hold shrimp and all kinda of minnows/shad/mullet/etc...

another option is west bay. for west bay you can stay at one of the motels by 45 and 61st and put in at fatboys. fish around the confederate reef area and there a bunch of coves in west bay you can hit. also right behind fatboys is the causeway bridge and theres usually pretty good fishing there. id go grab a hook and line map from academy for both and see what you like best. alotta west bay is shallow so you just gotta be careful where you run.

You didn't specify what body of water you wanted to be in or what size boat so I can say where we like to go.
We put in at the yacht club 4th street,
It's quick access to the jetties and right near the concrete ship and sea wolf park. We do alot of fishing on the ends of the jetties and a bit offshore.
You can stay any where on the sea wall and it's only minutes away.
They yacht club has a lot of room and a decent bait shop.

Thanks JWS. I'll be fishing 3 days and will most likly hit the west bay first then the east bay targets.

Just need the weather and fish to coorperate.

Thanks for the additional info Cajuncountry. I'll be fishing in a 22' bay boat. I prefer the bay area and the jetties but if the fishing hot a few miles offshore I'll be happy to find tight line whereever I can.
