They took the mfg dates off of motors, so if it's never been sold, it's new.

I agree that model years have been removed but I don't think that was in effect in 2007. Warranty should start from the date of purchase or "in service date". We have seen some "new" engines where the warranty was registered by a dealer for a rebate or bonus type thing. NADA still values engines by model year so that means lenders will too. Ask the right questions and it would not hurt to run the VIN past the manufacturer customer service line to double check the warranty part.
Let us know if we can help.

I talked with 3 different dealerships over the weekend and got 3 different answers about the year model debate but it looks like you can buy an 2011 boat with a motor that was manufactured in say 2008 and the motor will be titled as an 2001 year model motor. Pay 2011 price for a motor that was built with 2008 dollars. The Outboard Motor industry has some strong clout in Austin.

It sounds simple but the problem is that lenders (banks) still want to know a year. NADA still uses model year. There are so many areas that the Marine Industry seems at odds with the rest of the world. A little bit of standardization would be great but that involves several things to line up.
