My dad and I are going to the LMF in April for our first time. I was wondering if there are any spots where I can launch a jon boat where the water is calm enough to troll upriver and drift back down.

Also, where is a good access point to Zone 2 other than the dam? Any information would be appreciated.

it all depends on whether there is water being generated or not, if the is water being run, nothing below the power house is good. if you want to , though i believe there are a few spots in lower zone 2. also over there by sids fly shop is a good place to launch, but not a good place to fish. i think your better off bank fishing that time of year, also that is a good time of year for walleye on that river, if you want to try and catch a few, go and talk to jesse king at three rivers fly shop. any other fly fishing info on trout, go see sid at beavers bend fly shop.

The Old park dam is really the only access to z2. Launching there would be a real nightmare and even worse trying to get out.

Your best best to launch your boat would definitely be below the rereg dam (z3)... there's a ramp. be careful for the falls wink generation would be pretty likely that time of year too, if you're just using a trolling motor I'd be nervous about having enough juice to get back upriver if the water started flowing heavy

actually, a good spot to go looks like in the area just downstream of the powerhouse, and just upstream of the old park dam, just go when there is no water being run, idk how many trout are down there, but i do know there is every kind of fish you could ever imagine of catching in that area.

boats aren't allowed in either of those areas I'm afraid...

the midges are a good fly, but i wouldnt recomend dry flies as of recently, if i were you, i would focus on tying size 10-12 olive or brown wooly buggers with flash in the tail, along with egg patterns, fish the wooly bugger 12-18 inches below the egg pattern, with a split shot 6-8inches above the egg, fish the flies below an indicator about 5 feet deep

i agree, but i could be wrong, but i dont think there are many major dry fly hatches in april, i think the best hatch is the hex hatch in june or july. anyway, i would take a few dries, but your #1 go to is going to be the wooly bugger and the egg pattern
