I'll be heading to RayRob and Joe Pool this weekend to look at spots for the G2G in April. Any preferred locations I should look into?

BTW, rough head count: 72

So when we pick a lake who is going to give this new to Texas kayaker all the little secrets and honey holes at the lakes? I wont share any secrets unless they pay me really good smile.

I did a search on those two lakes you are looking at Neumie and really havent found much info short of a satellite map and a fishing report. Does anybody have any other links or fourm stories about those lakes so i can get a bit familiar with them?

I noticed those lakes are pretty big in size, is it recomended to maybe have a portable GPS while fishing them? At least for somebody who has never been out there. Something where I can mark where the launch point is so i can get back in case I go pretty far from it, or is the lakes pretty easy to navigate and find your way back?

Don't listen to him he is clearly dillusional!!! loco There are no fish there at all, stay away!!! bolt

That being said ____ ____ on Ray Bob will be producing good fish right about then and I know a good kayak launch for ____ ____, you people might want to vote for Joe Pool. 3 years ago come April I had a 10+ straighten the hook on a rattletrap that I tied on straight out of the box at ____ ____, one of the reasons I changed the hooks on them but this fateful afternoon I had broke off the last doctored one I had in the color that was working and lost what would have been my 2nd bass in double digits. I still haven't caught my second double digit Large Mouth, but I will.

Yea, your right Bert,
That bass in my profile picture is clearly a disillusion!!!
wink

I've had plenty a days fishing at RR that I came away empty handed. It's like any other lake. It can be hot,or it can be as cold as my X-wife. It just depends on the time of year.
Mid April will be a really good time to be out there though. Warm enough to enjoy a full day on the lake, but not so hot you need to keep taking a dip in the lake to keep from overheating.
It is a large lake,I really don't know if a GPS would be necessary though. It's marked pretty good unless you put in way north and get lost in the woods of the very north end somewhere.

So how does fishing tourney work? Type of fish? do you put in at the same point? Time of weigh-in? I've never fished a tourney out of a kayak. How the heck do you keep your fish alive? hmmm
It will be pretty cool to visit with other kayakers. I just bought my kayak last year, It's nothing fancy like I've seen that some of yalls are. I'm just now learning the ropes of fishing out of a kayak. I'm really looking forward to this.

Catch, photo, release, you have to have your own digital camera and measuring device, winner is based on best total length of 5 fish. Usually you can launch where you want and photo weigh in will probably be 2pm.

New to the forum, but not to kayak fishing. Is this GTG for regulars only? Or can anyone come out?

Thanks Phill!!! Will check this thread periodically to see which location has been chosen. Are there any fees for this GTG? As I didn't see anyone mention it or I may have missed it.

Tournament fees if you fish it, we request that you make a donation to Heroes on the Water if you stay to eat, any applicable park fees depending on where we wind up.

Sorry, got a call from a friend to do some crappie fishing today. Found fish, but they were sand bass. smirk

Anyways, I will be going to the Parks on Sunday; I promise. The goal of the trip is to make sure there is adequate parking, a safe launch are (like beach), close restroom facilities, etc....

Also, Bert's comments about the benefit tournament for HOW are the basic ideas. More to come about the tourny in the coming week or two. wink

The state park on RR has great facilities. Fish cleaning station, restrooms, and plenty of parking.

Checked out both parks on Sunday. Johnson Branch, more specifically Oak Point, has the most ideal setup for a large kayak G2G. The people that we needed to talk to were not there, so more details will be coming soon and nothing is set in stone.

Is this Park 1 1/2 hours from the Airport?
