i am wondering what makes a certain reel better for casting lighter baits. i currently have the core51mg with abec7 bearings and curado 101b with abec9 bearings and the curado beats the [censored] out of the core in distance using a 3/8oz tube head. i am really just asking because the core seams a little on the brittle side. i notice it chipping here and there and i dont use it that often.i know its a nice reel and its light but a curado101b with nice bearings performs better. i am thinking about in getting a calais due to it being better built and slapping some abec9's in it, maybe it can throw lighter baits good also. thanks

The Curado e's are pretty good for casting lighter baits.

those curado B reels are amazing machines. As far as distance wise, you're using a 3/8oz tube head which is pretty heavy. The curado B series of reels when tuned up are casting machines. How about doing it this way: cast an 1/8oz or a 1/4oz lure on both setups and you will certainly see the difference. The newer reels are able to cast lighter lures with less effort as opposed to the older reels.

I can throw 1/8 oz shakey heads with Ardent XS600 or XS1000 reels.
