Lot's of bad information out there. In my opinion after almost ten years of manufacturing and selling Redneck's Juglines , rebar is not the best choice, adding padding is optional but if they are built right you won't have any issues with them.

When I can ever get any built I'll let ya know Clif.

Only one problem with flagged jugs ...

that is- other not so ethically minded folks decide to come to the rescue & help themselves to your fish.

Of course, if a jug is on the move, that too shows there is one on the line.

Shoot I had Mt. Dew bottles painted white and that happened. Dang jet skier too, checked em twice!! Went to say something the second time but I couldn't catch him and I didn't figure an all out Indiana Jones Boat chase was worth the trouble. I wanna write a message on them next time.

What should I use instead of rebar?

I like to see my jugs bobbing like a cork that way you can tell for sure if you have some, and you can tell how big they are when they pull on the jugs. Thats when the fun starts, You never know how big they are tell you grab the line and feel that pull and then you see them. I LOVE TO JUG FISH

Cutting that rebar is not fun. Maybe now that I bhave an angle grinder it would be easier.

I use lead. I have a do-it mold with a cavity in the back used to heat the mold. I pour a few bars, cut off the tag from the pour, cut the bars in half and put inside 1/2 inch pvc. Had not thought about the foam in the end as a cousin but that should work. noidea

Yesterday I got all my components to build me some jugs..and instead of rebar, I'm using 1/2 inch threaded rod (under 2 bucks at Home Depot for a 1 footer) I was going to go with a non-thread rod but I figured there wouldn't be any resistance and may flag itself if a big wake came by. The threaded rod appears to have even more resistance then rebar.
The only thing I couldn't find was white backer rod. Still looking, and eveything at Home Depot and Lowe's was too small. Any suggestions?
I spent a total of 6 and change to make 2 jugs.

When I made my juglines, I too was concerned about the eye bolt coming through the cap. I decided to use the threaded eye bolts, and added some flat washers and a nut to the backside before I glued the cap on. It probably wasn't necessary, but it gave me a little more piece of mind.
