We got on the water just before sun-up and we were very happy to see the lake was full. We were even happier when we saw all of the lily pads that are in places that they weren't last year. As a matter of fact, there are lily pads EVERYWHERE. It really got us excited thinking about the possibilty of doing well on some topwater frogs. Well, it just wasn't to be. We did not get ONE strike on frogs the whole time we were on the water.

We tried a whole lot of very nice looking shoreline. There is plenty of vegetation out there. After about 2 hours, I caught a #3-8 on a Manns wake bait. It would be the 1st of my two bites for the day. While slowly cruising to our next location, my Wife caught a 2-pounder while trolling with a small crankbait. That would be here only fish.

We tried some deepwater crankbaits in front of the club house when we saw what we believed to be bait balls on our Si Humminbird. We didn't get a sniff.

I just do not understand this lake. It has the grass, pads, and varieties of water depths to be a fish factory. I have to admit that we only fish with crankbaits but with almost perfect water temps (72-74 dgrees) the !@#^$% fish should be jumping in the boat!

I guess we'll be back someday.

Be safe,
Rayzor

Feel your pain. Was out thier Sat. the 23rd and only got a few. Think the moon the past couple nights had them getting fat all night and shutting down during the day. Will be heading back out there soon. Like you said it should be a bass factory with the way the lake looks.

Sometimes the fish and bait just are not were you think they should be. Even with the ideal conditions, if Huntsville is like Houston, we haven't had any rain in a while so the fish could have been deeper and more lathargic which would have called for a more finesse approach. Also, don't forget the pressure aspect. I am sure that lake gets hammered and the fish could be finickier. Don't give up and hope you have better success next time you are out there.

The only time I've had any luck on this lake is during the spawn, and at best I've only pulled three bass out of there in a given day of fishing. I was actually thinking of going there this weekend, but might have to see what other options I have. Hope your next trip is better.

I too was thinking about coming up from Humble this weekend but its not looking like its worth it now. Maybe I will just fish Lake Houston and stay local. The bite has been pretty good.

Well I guess I will still go to Raven this weekend with the mind set of not catching anything. Then if we do catch some it will make the day that much better.. smile

I have been there several times and stayed in the screen enclosed shelters. Did not have luck during the day, but at night have caught some nice bass from the bank. Not sure why, but always seems I catch more at night there.

Don't let my report discourage you. This lake has been good to a lot of people. You never know; this cold front could wake them up. Then again, it could make them get lockjaw. Then there's the Chamber of Commerce blus skies.....

pressure, pressure, pressure, pressure, pressure. These fish have seen every lure in all the colors that any of you have in your boat. Every nice day to fish, most bad days to fish people are out there buzzing and rattling all through the perfect looking bass lake. It will take reduced fishing pressure for these fish to relax. Nobody is willing to do that. Go to Conroe, Fayette County, Gibbons Creek maybe Livingston, but these fish need a break. It is also no great accomplishment to catch a good to great size fish off the bed in the spring if you spend all day flipping to that one annoyed fish. Congratulation's Great White Fisherman.
