At acadamy you can get a spinning reel MAKO very good reel so far have had mine about a yr, no problems and have reeled in some awful big logs i got hung on. 15lb fish biggest though. But no problems at all. 29.95 reel and 7'6 M-H rod, spooled already with 20lb. line. Also the pretty yellow rod and reel combos work well too and are cheap. I got mine at a pawn shop but think they are like 39.95 at Acadamy.

I bought a pair of the Cabela's Salt Striker SSBF-65 Baitrunners to put on my Pro Angler rods. They've been awesome on catfish, 50+" gar, and Sharks down on the coast. They're not the cheapest reel out there but not near the highest either. This is what I have on my Pro Angler rods also.

I have Cabela's King Kat II reels, BPS Catmaxx 80, and Okuma Avenger AV80s. All have worked well, but the Akumas and the Catmaxx seem to be smoother than the Cabela's reel.

Weird because those King Kat reels depending on size are either okuma or pfleuger contracts. I've got one of the King Kat reels on a 10' K Kat rod never been used. I've got no use for a 10' rod on a 19' boat.

I can only assume it is a cheaper reel, I got the King Kat 8' rods with reels for $24. I think they are now like $34. Still a great combo for the price, but again, the Okumas and Catmaxx are smoother. My opinion of course.

Oh no doubt. I just went to the garage and looked at that King Kat reel I've got. It's practically brand new and I can tell it's not near as good as my other reels. I've got a couple of 30+ year old French Made Mitchell reels that are in better shape.

it is a 6'6 and the catmax has many postive reviews and I agree with it being to big and i really perfer 7'rods and above but she was trying to be nice thinking hard of returning it and taking the money and getting a twc extreme rod just dont want to hurt her feelings. Decisions, Decisions lol Well catangler, u get a qauntum and keep the gift rod and mamma's happY?

Give it a shot they are under 20.00... for an amateur such as myself, they are perfect! Look at this way, if you get it and dont like it to your satifaction, throw it in your tackle box as an emergency spare. The one thing to remember on those in my experience is dont over fill the spool. I have the 40model. good luck.

On the catmaxx they are both the same size reel, the 80 just has a bigger line capacity.

I'd but a Pflueger President 6760XT on it. But I'm real partial to Pflueger so that's just me.
