The U.S. Borader Partrol can't go passed those river bouyes. They can't do anything about what takes place on the Mexico side of the lake. What is needed is some mercenaries on a sting opteration and take them out when they approach with weapons.

ZAPATA Law enforcement officials here gave up their search for the body of a McAllen man presumed dead after pirates shot him and toward his wife on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake.

Investigators believe David Michael Hartley, 30, died after he was shot in the back of the head as he and his wife fled from three approaching boats, said Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez.

Tiffany Hartley, 29, swung her personal watercraft around in an attempt to retrieve her husbands body but had to leave it in order to escape the continuing onslaught of bullets.

The boats actually followed her back past the (United States) boundary, Gonzalez said. They acted very boldly.

The sheriff said the wife was unharmed and had returned to McAllen late Thursday night with family friends.

By 9 p.m. Thursday, law enforcement called off searches for David Hartleys body. His wife was forced to leave his body about two miles past the international boundary beyond any U.S. law enforcements legal jurisdiction.

We can only stay at that boundary and see if we can spot anything, said Capt. Fernando Cervantes of Texas Park and Wildlife Department in Zapata. Visitors need to know its not safe to go to Mexico, and if anything happens over there, we cannot help them.

The sheriff said the three boats approached the young couple as they made their way back to American waters after sightseeing and taking pictures of submerged buildings near Old Guerrero.

Tiffany Hartley told investigators gunmen opened fire when she and her husband revved their engines to cross back to the U.S. faster leading Gonzalez to believe drug cartels are to blame.

These cartel members are getting very brazen, Gonzalez said. This is of course speculation, but its very strong the cartel pirates have always demanded money, so when the couple tried to run off, they used their arms.

Falcon Lake has seen a relative calm since a string of pirate shakedowns of fishermen in May, Cervantes said,

Victims told authorities cartel members had robbed U.S.-based boats that had wandered across the border.

Those pirates were actually Mexican teenagers looking to join the ranks of the Zetas, one of northeast Mexicos most powerful drug cartels, Gonzalez said.

If its the same pirates that used to be there two or three months ago, itll be these gophers, these Zetitasthe cartel member wannabes, he said. They got to prove whatever it takes to graduate to the next level as enforcers.

The sheriff met with FBI, U.S. Border Patrol and state investigators Thursday evening. Gonzalez said authorities were contacting Mexican counterparts to deploy military personnel to search for David Hartleys body.

U.S. officials will resume search efforts today

I'll be deer hunting near Lake Amistad this December. I sure hope the bandits stay on their side of the border.

He just got that information from a local guide down there, it was in a post yesterday. I'm sure the locals are trying to do clean up as quick as possible.

Yeah I saw that too.

Nothing against anyone, but let's face the facts only...not hear say!

Read the post in the bass fishing section. I think it will clear up the confusion over who was being investigated prior to this event..
Prayers to the family.

Never mind, looks like the moderators shut down the pirate thread and lost a few posts along the way??

Nah, Our government and media will ignore it and the bad guys will get away with it. Again. It's not politically correct these days for America to defend itself.

Don't expect Obama and his motley crew to do anything..their trying to save their own butts right now. Anyone watch Border Wars? These guys are under staffed and will get zero help from our leadership who has more important fish to fry...let one of his radical buddies get arrested for resisting arrest and he's all over it...let someone get killed on the border and it's time for another vacation. Come on 2012...tides will change in Nov.

Just my 2 cents.
