That looks like a Texas log perch. Of course they are not supposed to get that big. Then again they are not supposed to be in Benbrook or any waterway that connects to it and I have caught 3 in my cast net over the last few years.

Monticello is full of grinnel/bowfin!Not saying there not here yet(snakehead)But with all the fishermen here in Texas that do know what a bowfin is,we haven't seen the snakehead appear yet.And trust me that's a lot of fishermen fishing every day.

I know they are in Texas waters. I know a guy that has caught what looks to be two Northern Snakeheads in Taylor's Bayou in Jefferson County. Pictures were sent to biologist with TP&W. He confirmed that the pics look like a snakehead. They are looking into it. I have a pic of one of the fish but don't know how to post it

Monticello has some grinnels that hang out in the cove behind Owl Point, Usually off a row of stumps or fence post.

I bet you killed a grinnel

I bet in another life you were part of the Salem Witch Trails.

I would think smaller ones would be showing up first getting caught a 5# being the first reported would most likely be unlikely. Not saying it wasnt but I hope it wasnt. Ive seen a south american ciclid caught out of eagle mt last yr. A guy brought it to the scales. It looked heathy . People are nuts for throwing strange fish in our waters.

I am puzzled since 1519 doesn't cross Monti. Interesting story though.

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!
