I prefer to clean them at the lake as well and when I guided that was the only way to do it. Now if buddies went with me, we cleaned them here at the house, i used a 10 gallon bucket with two contractor bags in it, filled it up with say 100 sandbass scraps, tied it up and the lucky person who lived in a condo and had a dumpster got to take them with him...LOL.

I'm gonna start using the freezer technique! I had about 27 magnum and hybrid carcases I cleaned on Friday just before july 4th. Well Monday was the 4th and no trash! Dang I made a run all the way to the Lewisville dump to get rid of them on Saturday after only 1 day and I couldn't take it any more. Be careful with burying them in the garden. Normally you only bury a few fish scattered around the garden. It does work but if you fish alot and/or had 100 or more to bury it would burn up your garden with too much nitrogen. It would stink to much as well. Everytime you went to the garden for about two weeks or more you would smell strong rotting fish. (probably w/o even going to the garden depending on how deep you buryed them.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

I use the freezer method as well. The only problem for me is that, in Arlington, we put our trash in plastic bags and place it on the curb on trash day. If the bag is too heavy, the trash guys won't put it in the truck. One day I came home from work to a bag full of thawed fish carcasses that they had left. I've since downsized the amount I put in a bag.

I would like to add my 2cents to the freezer thing....I have a method that not only freezes them, it keeps the plastic bag from getting punctured by the gills and spines.
I put a plastic bag in a bucket and line it with news paper....that way, when I sqeeze the air and compress the bag so I can get it in the freezer (lots of fish guts left over from all the fillets), the bag does not puncture and the fish guts stay frozen longer when I put them in the trash on trash day.
Sometimes, I drop them off at the car wash or HEB. I hate to do that, but it keeps my trash can smelling better than the dumpster at the ramp. I usually wait till trash day though and use my own can.
I like to freeze them because after a long night of catching, I just don't feel like cleaning them right then and there. But, cleaning them at the ramp is by far the best and most convenient method when I do have the energy. On special occasions, I take my frozen remains to my friends dock and chum the catfish the night before I go there to fish.

Where do they go when they're not there???

I also do the freezer approuch and then the day of the trash i place them in the double bags and off they go, because the trash people won't haul off dead fish if they know there there but frozen fish never flop or stink for the one day there there. thats why we have a large freezer. I also wrap them in news paper each one as i clean them helps absorb the smell

I got a battery operated filet knife. a 4 foot long 2 X 12, 2 buckets - clean them at the lake, carry freezer bags along for the cleaned fish and put them in the cooler for the ride home.
When I do clean them at home, which happens occassionally, I put them in the freezer and the next trip to the lake I carry them along and dump them in the lake for the cat fish and turtles.

I clean them at the lake. If I have to clean at home, I put them in the garden, but i try not to clean them at home.
