Lake El Salto is by far the safest lake in mexico. I live in Mazatlan and drive 2-3 times a month to the Lake. Pay your 5 dollars a day access to the lake, buy you fishing liscense or go to Anglers Inn who supplies all of this. This is a lake to have in your back yard. If you dealing drugs you will have problems no matter where you live in the world but not if you are a tourist. If you would like to contact me personally for local assistance my e-mail is tmaretti@yahoo.com

I will not stop fishing abroad, in fact, just returned from a week bass fishing in South Africa. Had a blast.

El Grande...I have watched your posts and being a guy who has regularly gone in to Mexico to fish, I take what you have said here very seriously...sad situation for so many in the camps that are there to serve the fisherman...their jobs are gone...or changed dramatically.

Hope this goes away....the fishing is off the hook in Mexico.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Check out J and J Guide Service. They do trips to Mexico all year long to both Comedero and El Salto. JW is also a guide at Lake Fork and he will tell you that he has had absolutely NO PROBLEMS AT ALL when traveling into or out of Mexico. Check out lakeforkproguides.com. Just some food for thought.

Some folks on this thread need to put their bib on because they should be eating some crow.

JW and the whole Ron Speed operation are good people, and the whole Mexican fishing experience is something I wish every bass fisherman could experience, but you really have to decide if all of this is worth the risk. I would love to return to fish Comedeoro or any other of the Sinaloan lakes but that is not going to happen until something changes down there. I will tell you this anyone who goes down there and wants to take pictures of the many marijuana fields around these lakes think twice. Had an old man and two 12 year old boys with rifles sink my camera while we were down there last time.

My wife saw the article on the web last night about the Falcon deal and my trip to El Salto ended right then and there...It really doesn't matter that El Salto is far from the border. It's Mexico and my wife matter more to me then catching a big bass. I feel for those resorts down there I do but I'm not going this year...
