this was my first trip out to the lake and had problems with some old gas so didnt stray far from the boat ramp just went across to this little island just against the ship channel and tore em up for atleast 5 hours not all keepers but a bunch of rats and some under sized trout two big bull's one broke off the other was landed, a couple of large black drum and one nice flounder and some of the biggest whiting I have ever caught, tried every bait under the sun from live to dead and artificial but the really good bite was on dead shrimp on the bottom it was funny they didnt really want the live, it was a perfect day overcast and rain stayed away a little windy but nothing too bad,,,,, had a really hard time keeping the boat in one place kept dragging the anchor could not get it to stick anybody have any tips or tricks I could use

I assume you was fishing around Stewts Island (sp). I usually have better luck just drifting across the oyster reef's then pick up and do it again .
All report's say it's hot there right now .

well ive looked on a bunch of maps and cant find the name of that island but if you went out at sp boat ramp go strait out west to the island its that one, but thats all we did just drift with anchor out and pick it back up about every 15 mins or so and move back where are the oyster reef's

Get you a Stake Out Stick (aka: marsh anchor), you can't use it in the deep water but works great in skinny, and you don't have to worry about anchor slippage. We've used ours in 9' where the bottom is soft, throw it like a spear, strait down. There are a few different brands/types, depending on your budget. Google it.
