My dad wants to take me on a fishing trip out of state and the first thing that came to my mind was going to Mexico. Has anyone fished there recently? My dad is nervous because of the border stuff. What are some good lodges? And best lake (el Aalto, Bacharach)?

SCB, listen to Mr. Law. He lives down there and knows what's going on. I'd go to Falcon and fish either side (and have recently) but no way in hades would I set foot on Mexican soil or cross that border in a vehicle. The situation over there is too unsettled and the government is complicit in much of the unrest so they're not going to help you if you get in a jam. I copied a link for you below from a gent who recently fished at Sugar Lake. Note the comments from a bunch of other south Texas guys. I've said this for several years now, someone could invite me to a ranch loaded with 170's or a lake chock full of 10 lber's and if it's in Mexico, I'm not going. It is a shame too because it's a beautiful country with a bunch of damned good folks. food and hospitality. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/5228353/Sugar_Lake_Bass#Post5228353

Personally, I would opt for a trip to Falcon. Matter of fact, compared to Richardson being in Zapata will seem like another State.(jk) I definitely would not go to Mexico right now. If you really intend to go out of State, I would go to Lake Guntersville.

Go north to a good smallie destination ... you won't be disappointed and you can escape the Texas heat for a few days. Great Lakes come to mind!
PM me if you want a suggestion!

It's not safe anywhere in Mexico. There were a bunch of murders and kidnapping in Culican, recently. That's where Baccarac is. El Salto is probably safer. I's stay away from Comedero, too.

Not to take this into the Bunker but the Prez of Mexico said yesterday the murders would increase before it gets better. It's been a bloody month already!
I wouldn't step foot over there...even if the place you are going is safe...you still have to get there safely!

I dont think you could even find anyone to take you to any mexico destinations. Most of the resorts have shut down.
Just get it out of your head cause you aint going
