Go with a heavier and longer boat. Skeeter i class is a good choice, but they will all get you wet eventually.

i thinkit a matter of preference. We are on our third Charger. It does great on rough water. We caught on Amistad 2 years ago and it did mighty fine getting us in. We down by 377 bridge (I think) and storm came up, we had to go to Devils river opening and cross over to- can't remember name of ramp, but bldg had orange looking roof. Crossing was horrible, but we made it before the pier blew away. We sure did like that Charger boat then.

The longer the better in any Manufacturer. I love the Triton TR-22

I had TR196 and I went 21 feet w/ ZX250 for that very reason - just tired of getting caught out on big water with lots of wind and everyone knows it's never windy on Amisted - don't think it'll matter much if your staying fiberglass at 21' makes a hugh diff. I am 300 plus and the deck is huge and does not list like the narrower decks I have been on.

Champion, old ones were better, IMO, but the newer ones fish better and still ride in rough water better than any other I've been in. I like the smaller boats and have had 2-17.5' Champs and they outperformed many 19-20 boats in some really bad water on Whitney and Palestine. My 20' ProCrap was about the sorriest riding POS I ever had. Hate to say that because I lost more money gettin rid of that thing than anything I have ever owned.

I know an old school guide on Fork that swears up and down that an Xpress X21 is bye far the best big water boat that he has ever owned, I think he is on number 17. Claims that Xpress will be the last boat he will ever own.

I have a 203 Champ and it is a great ride. If I can find a 22ft one that will be my next move unless someone comes out with a 23ft.
A lot has been said about how you drive it and that speaks truth. More time on the water and in the seat.
If Champion goes out which I think it is on the way out or gone I will look at Legend or Phoenix.

Not a skeeer zx, I own one and out of all my boats it would not be my first choice for big water and wind. But it does fish better and runs like a scallded ape in smoother water.

I have a 20 foot stratos, a 96 model with a 200hp, and it will run with every champion, ranger and triton on toledo...and half the price tag!! but I will agree with most on this post, it's the driver not the boat that makes it safe in rough water!!!

If Champion goes out which I think it is on the way out or gone I will look at Legend or Phoenix. Champion is now the Stratos Elite Series. They were originally built in Mountain Home Ark, then when Genmar bought them out of Bankruptcy, they moved manufacturing to TN. When Genmar went belly up and Platinum Equities bought Ranger, Stratos, Champion, and now Triton, they are moving all manufacturing to Flippin.
