I went out to Ray Hubbard with my bro to do some crappie fishing. We caught a bunch of shad and headed out to the pylons on the new i-90 bridge being built. We managed quite a few cats but no crappie. What am I doin' wrong? My wife and I will be going out Sunday morning to try again. Any advice?

1-1/2' off the bottom on the pylons.

Go to regular or small minnows.

Try a couple of the tree tops in front of the boat ramp also. Fish just off the bottom.
I snag a couple there on the way in or out every week.

the south columns on the 30 bridge have allowed a few recently. The numbers have not been that good, but a few with some size have come out in the last few weeks.

Be careful of the hanging treble hooks that the construction workers on the new bridge leave in the water all the time. They usually have 2 or more trebles on clear mono hanging in the open where you would normally drive through. they have a cat or two on the usually.

If you run into a gray haired dude in a Hobie kayak, throw large money in his boat, it is said this will bring you much good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Where can I get minnows at? When cast netting I only manage shad, a few perch and of course the annoying baby catfish.

Fisherman's Supply is on south side of 30 about 1 mile west of bass pro. They open at 5 am. They are just west of a boat shop.

I may see you there. Rigging a new yak tonight. If I don't get it finished, I will be in a bright yellow Hobie. If I do, it will be a white one,

That's good info, thanks. I will be in green 14ft. aluminum boat with a tiny little motor. My wife and I used to use fishing kayaks when we lived in Austin, but had to sell them for rent. This boat just happened to be a really good deal once we got back on our feet. Do still miss the yak though.
