The bad thing is the fuel mileage. The only way to get around it is to get a different exhaust with the dpf (diesel particulate filer) delete and put a decent tune on it. go to www.murffracing.com and talk to jason he can get that thing running good with some good mileage.

If it's the 6.4 motor then yes, the fuel mileage is bad, but if t the 6.7 it has improved to around 18 for normal driving. If your tuning the 6.4 then look at Spartan or SCT, as for the 6.7 i would still look at those two previously mentioned. Either way, in stock form they r good strong motors that could use a few more mpg's.

I guess it depends on the set up. I have a 2008 4WD 2500 Laramie, and I'm pretty proud of the 17.2 MPG I recently got, which is the best ever. Towing my wife's 1996 Mercedes E-320 to Florida on a U-Haul Trailer, I got 13.5 consistently. Towing my 74 Chev 1/2 ton P/U back from KC I got 10.5-13.5 depending on terrain. It has never seen 20 no matter what the terrain or speed driven. The Truck has 75K miles on it.
That said, I love the truck, and in my opinion that cummins is a stud. I found that my mileage did increase when I put a hard bed cover on, by about 1 mpg. Also, when it gets over 100K miles and the warranty is off the motor, the chip goes in.

The 6 speed in the Dodge is an Aisin, I think thats how its spelt. The Allison is in the chevy.

Kingwood, Ive got an H&S Black Maxx Tuner and couldnt be happier. The have since come out with there Overdrive which is a tranny tune for the autos. Ive read good things about it on a couple of forums I visit. Ive already bought it just cant install it till I get home in Sept. to let you know how it actually does.

For information and feedback on Ford diesels, I highlyt recommend checking out http://www.thedieselstop.com . I have a 1996 F-250 7.3 that is still going strong with 181K miles on it.

I can't disagree that the Cummins is the top diesel PU engine, but I prefer the Ford truck over the Dodge. IMHO, the perfect truck would be Ford's truck, Dodge's (Cummins') engine and GM's (Allison's) transmission....paid for by someone else! smile

Like I said, without a chip a 6.7 Cummins ain't gonna get that kind of mileage, empty or towing. My 2008 6.7 4wd Mega Cab gets a consistent 17.2 and 13.5 towing. Yer also giving out bad info on the tranny. An Aisin is not an Allison ('07 and newer), it's actually a partnership between Toyota and Borg-Warner. They make and sell 40% of the Auto Tranny's for Trucks in the whole world.

I got a 2010 dodge, I am very happy with the truck, but as kingwood stated they dont hit 20mpg anymore unless you cut the DPD off and chip it. Right now I am running a stock truck with 1-ton 4x4 manual trans and average around 16.5, and I havent towed anything over 4500lbs yet but it still hangs around 16 mpg towing.

I have heard that the new chevy is getting better milleage than dodge and ford.

I have no regrets about getting the dodge, I think the urea stuff was a bad move.

I love that cummins. When I get 100K on mine I'll try the chip thing. Not Familiar enough with the DPD to mess with that yet. I've heard of guys installing methanol injection also, but I think I'll pass.
