Anyone on this forum a part of the college tour or have anything to say about it? I just joined my schools team and didn't know much about it.

Well just how good the level of competition it is? Most results weigh in like 12 lbs on a day and win? Just a huge weight difference and didn't know how good the anglers are. I am no self proclaimed legend nor do I think I will do very good but was just wondering why there is such a big gap in college fisherman and pro's in their 30's.?

I wish they had the college teams when I was in school.
It's a great platform for those guys! They can easily go from school into work/fishing.
Several guys on the TFF fish them....nice guys too!

There are some good anglers that fish the FLW college thing, but also a lot that are average to poor. The off-limits periods hamper the weights a little bit as well.
They're all fun, and quite the production. Fun to be a part of. And free.

haha must be a tough life to be a pro angler, on average how much do those guys make a year? not the big names and not counting sponsors' bonuses Not much, most of the guys are barely scraping by. Or atleast the ones that arn't trust fund babies. Some of the best fishermen in the world cant afford to go pro.

well it really depends on where you fish, some fisheries are better than others, thats why you may see 12lbs winning, but FLW has probably the best, its free, and they give you a boat to use if you dont have one, usually it pays out fairly well, in the national championship if you make it there and win you get 100,000 and a wrapped boat and truck in your college colors, and as far aas the competition goes, theres always going to be a a handful of guys that will always have good fish no matter where the tournament is, but most of the field is fairly leveled out

Half the winnings in the FLW College Series goes to the college, half to the college bass team. The fishermen don't get the money. The money is used to buy tackle, pay expenses and such for the team to go to other tournaments. You look at what Cosner and his partner did for Texas State University. The college got $50,000 and the team got the balance to put in their fund for expenses. That way, the kids go fish all the tournaments for free for as long as that money lasts.
I can guarantee you that it's a great experience. Lots of the boaters in the FLW tournaments stay over after their tournament and take the college kids out in their boats on tournament day. The overall experience you will get from it will prepare you for future tournaments. You get to make some life long new friends and learn what camaraderie and competitive tournament fishing is all about.
There are some downright good fishermen and women in the college teams. But, most are just good kids that love to fish.
If you have any questions about it, you should contact Wade Middleton at WadeMiddleton@aol.com He is always available to help you out and answer your questions.

Well I am pumped about it. It is a blessing to be able to fish for free and compete for money. I do know that they reimburse you for your gas travel! But your winnings go to your school club and not to you because you are a student. That would be like paying football players to win a bowl game, even though they receive benefits for winning as well. It seems like a great experience and I can't wait to be a part of it!

Wish you nothing but the best. You didn't say which school you will be attending.

well i dont know what other colleges do for reimbursement but SFA takes 10% of your winnings and re-imburses you for gas and hotels or whatever else you had spent money on, but its really fun
