I have found a boat I really like and it has a Mariner 225 EFI motor with 400 hours on it, I have heard alot of bad things about a Mariner motor. I dont know anything except what I have heard, I need some feedback from people who have worked on them and owned them.

Are they good or should I stay away from that boat.

A Mariner is a Mercury. Good motor if it has been maintained. Get it checked by a tech first, but I would not hesitate buying a Mariner.

You *heard* from idiots...sorry to be blunt, but anything over 40 hp is exactly the same as Mercury. 40 and under mariners prior to 94 were yamaha, mercs were tohatsus.
