I just returned back to ohio from a great fishing adventure catching whiting at crystal beach. Nobody there was able to tell me the size and bag limits on the fish though. Could someone please help? i cant wait to come back next month again and hit up crystal beach. Man are they good eating!

Texas Parks and Wildlife prints a free booklet of Laws every year. Look for it around August for the newest copy. As far as I know, there is no limit. They are not game fish.

Yes you can trust the Government, just ask the Indians.

There are no limits on whiting.just leave the little guys to grow to about 10 inches so they'll have a chance to reproduce

i was just using a 1 oz egg sinker on 10 lb test with an 8 lb leader about 18" with a 3/0 hook on some shrimp. I used the tactics that i use for freshwater trout fishing in an ohio river and i casted diagonally into the current or in my case that day, 2 o'clock ,let the sinker bounce off the floor and when it got to around 10 oclock, i reeled in slowly. Bam! every single time would i land them. Wish i would of known that there's no limit on them as i stopped at 9 of them! yeah i released all that were less than 12" as i didnt know the regs. Man do i love texas! no limit on these guys huh! i hate fishing here in ohio. the wardens out here are nazi's, not relaxed like in tx. I just got banned from the ohio fishing forum because everyone was complaining that i would brag and brag about fishing in texas and maybe i was, lol but i just love that! I also noticed that there's no limit on blue gills either and boy was i landing huge 10" ones in conroe! In ohio your lucky to find ANY over this length and there's a limit of 20. god bless my great state of texas! you guys have it lucky compared to these yankees out here in the buckeye state!

Great eating and this is the best time of year to catch the bigger ones on a consistent basis. I'll be making a run soon to get some more myself. you'll catch both species: the Silver and the Southern Gulf Whiting(More brownish color). They call em channel mullet in La.

The surf off the beach is your best bet. You can cast off the beach or put on some waders and wade out about thigh deep and cast out into the breakers. Use the bottom rig technique mentioned above by Ohiofisherman. Sounds like he's got it down pat. I use a similar rig. You may want to use some smaller hooks (I use #2 or even #4 circle hooks) and make sure you peel the shrimp like Mr. Tucker says to do. I usually fish from Galveston to Surfside.

In the surfwade out like garfish said........ we make double drop leaders with 1/0 long shank hooks and fresh dead peeled shrimp with a one to two oz bank sinker...... works great. Alot of the time we catch them two at a time

Stand on the beach and cast as far as you can and/or maybe try walking out on the rock groins in Galveston or the Surfside jetties to get out a little furthur w/o getting wet. Post up a report on what you do.

Be sure to use fresh dead shrimp as apposed to frozen. Most bait shops that carry live will have the fresh dead.
