report for 6/02, hit the lake around 5pm and stayed until about 8pm. I caught 11 sandies from 9-14'' all of them came from the humps, and I also caught one nice largemouth. All of my fish except for one came off of a 1/4oz. silver rooster tail. the fish were periodically schooling they were definitely driving shad to the surface, and strangely enough the water temp has dropped since my last trip to JP from around 90 last time to 86 today. Well I hope this helps you guys out, good luck and see ya on the water smile

I will be fishing Joe Pool for the first time this weekend.

I hear discussion about Firemans Hump and some other humps. How can I find these structures? What other locations are good for Sandies?

Where can I find minnows in the area? I will be coming up from the South.

What is the best boat ramp. By best I am seeking nice/safe facilities that are not too crowded.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

Nice report JPW. Thanks.
I see that you are trying everything in your tacklebox. I have some roadrunners, but not silver.

Glad to hear that they are biting again.
I may be able to get out there Sunday, but not sure.

Waco kid I would reccomend Lynn creek park (not the marina by the same name). it is right next door to the marina there is not as much boat traffic and the facilities are much safer. Minnows that is easy you can find them at both of the marinas on the lake, and Lynn Creek Marina is open 24hrs. As far as the humps it is hard to say if you don't know the lake, I would reccomend purchasing a "good" lake map and it will show almost all of these spots discussed on the forum, including firemans which is my go to spot most of the time. If you can't find a good map try a Texas lakes and bays fishing atlas which will provide you with gps coordinates of all these same areas. Well good luck to you and remember to bring your chartreuse baits when you come.

Thanks Joe Pool Whites,

What about Cedar Hill State Park? That will be closer for me.

I suppose these marinas will have a map of the lake.

cedar hill is safe place, but it can get kind of busy during the weekends over there. The last time I was in the marinas they both had a "good" lake map that was water proof and everything, it will run you about 8 bucks. that marina only stays open till 6-8pm not real sure, and they do have minnows as well.

WacoKid, I use the state park all the time. The facilities are really good, but it gets a little crowded (understatement) on the weekends.

I bought one of those maps that JPW is talking about.
I have one for most all of the lakes that I go to. They seem to be pretty good maps.

state park is a rip off...they want you to pay a $10 night fee if your parking your truck over night while you night fish...thats even with the $50 dollar membership fee...And the state park bait shop closes at 6pm...Lynn creek you can pay 100 bucks and launch all year long launch 24 hours a day and buy minnows 24 hours a day up there...

$10 bucks a night at the state park everyday..

The way to communicate with the fish is to drop them a line.
To argue on a fishing boat is to have de bait.

I have the season pass to all the state parks in texas, it cost 10 bucks a night to keep your truck and trailer parked in their parking lot while you fish..thats with the season pass..

no matter how many times your gonna stay over night with your truck in their parking lot they still want 10 bucks..since you will be on the water over night..

HELL IF I COULD SELL MY PARK PASS FOR 50 I WOULD LIKE TO GET MY MONEY BACK.

The good thing about the state park pass is that it's good all over texas, but I think it sucks that you have to pay additional money to fish later than 10PM. That gets kind of old if you do it often enough.
