Lake Amistad bass fishing has been absolutely unreal over the past few weeks! The fishing pressure has become fairly light has we head out of the spring spawning season and into the summer. I have been catching great numbers every outing with bigger fish in the 7-8lb range. Most of the fish are still shallow all over the lake. The bigger bass over 5lbs continue to show up daily. Not only are we getting some very nice big bass to the boat but the shear numbers are awesome. 30 fish days are the norm and 40-50 fish days are not uncommon. Water temps all over Lake Amistad are still high 60's to low 70's.

Current Patterns -
Shallow: The topwater bite is really hot in the mornings and continues through the day when we have low light conditions. A few fish are still spawning on the main lake, but most are post spawn and feeding heavy in the shallow water (5-12 feet). The more consistent presentations right now are jerkbaits in the 3-8 foot range, 5 inch Optimum BLT swimbaits in the 1-15ft range as well as finesse worms in the 5-15 foot range.

Mid-Depth: More of the bigger fish seem to be coming from the 10-25 foot depth range for me and the new El Grande Lures Hatch-Match stick baits and big 10 inch worms are productive when worked slowly over grass, rock and wood. Carolina rig presentations with El Grande Lures Hatch-Match sticks work very well in the 10-25 foot ranges.

Deep: As always at Lake Amistad, the deep bite on drop-shots near creek points and channel ledges are productive in 20-50ft.

See you at the Lake,
Kurt Dove

##Side note for tourney fisher's -
If you have a tourney coming up in your near future on Lake Amistad then you will need 23-25lbs for a 5 fish limit to be competitive.
Good luck to everyone and tight lines..........

Just spent 3 days on Amistad last week and had a blast. I used Hags F6.5 and F8's with great success along with his Undertaker bugs worked around points and drop offs. 30-35 fish were the norm per day up to 5#. If you want to have some fun rig a F8 weightless around some flats with good drop offs in watermelon gold, golden cherry or talapia.

Spooks are working best for me on the bigger topwater fish but for constant action a torpedo is hard to beat.......

Man I can't wait to get there. Were renting a house boat from may 20 to 24th and staying close to box canyon. hopefully we can get on some fish. My wife has never been there, so I hope we can catch alot of numbers. Really not worried about size, were going to fish for fun not in any tourney's. Should we be concerned about staying on the water since Mexico is having all the problems they are having? Should we pick a diffrent spot to dock the house boat or is Box Canyon safe?

Mappur15,
Lake Amistad waters are in no way being affected by any problems in Mexico. In my opinion you should have no concerns in Box Canyon area for houseboat overnighting.
I have been having success on the Baby and Magnum torpedoes in the baby bass color. Low light conditions are the key.
