I am going to a friends wedding on the beach. I figured if I am staying at a beach house might as well bring the rods. Does anyone know what fish are biting in the surf and if you can catch bait with a cast net this time of year. thanks for any info

There should be some reds and drum in the surf. If you want to catch fish on every cast, put some dead shrimp in the second gut for whiting. Not sure what you would catch in the cast net.

I went there last summer. There are some good spots to wade fish the Santa Rosa Sound If you drive down towards the National Sea shore. Its east of pensecola about two or three miles.

In Pensicola this time a year there are tons of fish in the surf. You can throw small castmaster spoons and catch Ladyfish, Hardtails, Spanish Macks and a few other species. Take some topwaters with you like a Yo-Zuri Hydro pencil and cast it from the beach. You will catch anything from small sharks, bluefish, redfish, etc. Rent a kayak and paddle past the third sand bar and your fishing world will change forever with a large topwater :), just make sure you take a lifejacket and strap your rods down some how.
Good Luck
