Hi, I am Jonathan

a friend recently told me about this site so I thought I'd post some pics from the last few months. I fly fish almost exlusively, mainly for Bluegills, Redears, other sunfish and LMB. I fish around North and EAst Texas, as well as in the Hill Country quite a bit. My favorite place to fish is the Paluxy River. I have a blog at www.bluegillonthefly.blogspot.com where i post my recent catches and ramblings.

i generally fish a popper dropper rig that I upsize or down size depending on what I am targeting.

I will use a foam spider in a size 8 hook, on a 9ft leader, with a 3 foot segment of 3x flourcarbon tied to the bend of the hook, ending in a nymph such as a halfback, hares ear, or electric blue north fork nymph. I sometimes catch 2 fish at once on this rig.

If I am trying to target a mixed bag of bass and larger bluegills I will make the popper a size 10-8 popper, such as a boogle bug, with a 3 foot section of 1x flourocarbon ending in a size 6 clouser, or larger nymph.

Its important that the leader is mono, not flourocarbon, I find the flouro sinks to fast and messes up the popping action. The idea is that the first fly, the popper, acts as a strike indicator for the dropper, usually a nymph or small streamer.

If that isnt working, or the fish are really deep, I generally have a 9 foot leader of flourocarbon ending in a clouser, shad colored, or a silver bullys blue gill spider. All of which you can find on breambugs.com

hope that essay helps!

Thanks for all that information.

After years of chasing bass, and other species with conventional rods and reels, I've finally taken up fly fishing.

I'm really green, but I'm finally sort of figuring out how it's done, and with that information you've given, I might just do a lot better.

Thanks, and keep those posts coming!

Popper dropper is the way to go!
welcome

Nice fish eek2

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

Thank you for the welcome everyone. I do not think anything could be better than fly fishing for bream. Other than my wife, big bluegills are my passion.

I'd like to make it down to Fairfield, especially to try for one of those Tilapia they have, but I will be fishing the Llano, San Saba and the Colorado that weekend!

Hope everyone catches a ton!
