I got a 50lb bag of wheat a couple of weeks ago and made it like I have heard. 1 beer, some sugar, and added water about 2" above wheat. Kept an eye on it and today it started smelling like God knows what. My daughter and I took some to a stocked pond here in town (Wichita Falls) and threw a couple of coffee cans out. All we could seem to attract was the turtles. We gave it about an hour or so to see if it had an affect on the fish, but couldn't tell. Did we do something wrong? Did I make it right? Some ideas would help a lot. Thanks

Sounds like you did it right.. I just throw mine right out though.. I dont use a coffee can or anything... just scoop some and sling it out there... then put your bait around where you slung it.. not sure that that would make a big difference though.

When I say coffee cans I mean a coupple of coffee cans full. I use then to sling it out there not actually put the cans in the water.....lol

Oh! Haha.. well that may be too much... I would hardly put 1 coffee can full out there... you just want to attract them not fill them up.

i would just throw out a little about a 1/4 of a big coffee can..... you want more of the sour water then the grain..... when we first started to use sour grain we would throw out alot and start catching fish right away....then after about 15 minutes we stop catch any and the ones we did catch were so full of grain they looked like the were going to pop.....

You are using too much. It is not a problem with the way you made it it is just too much grain. You want to draw them in not feed them.

I posted some articles on my website a couple a weeks ago about making soured wheat, pretty much what you described above.

I agree, but I think the problem was there was not enough yeast to get it going good enough. I added some tonight from small packs. So soon I hope I will better stuff. The reason I added the yeast is a buddy of mine that makes it all the time said it never really got ferminted like it should have. Wish me luck and thanks.

Go by you some 32oz or 40oz malt liquor beer (Steele Reserve) use about 2-4 it will get it going and a lb of sugar. Now once you get it nasty and after you have used half of the soured grain add more wheat and it will sour quicker. Hope this helps.

Ive always had luck with milo, water and a few packs of brewers yeast/bread yeast. For kicks I sometimes add Jello mix or two.

Didn't take long to learn about enticing and not over feeding.Only toos about once every 45 minutes or so and usually not more than twice a location before moving. I take a old tall coffee travel mug holds about 16 oz maybe and toss a full cup out in a sweeping rainbow arc from right to left or vice-verse.
Oh be sure the wind is not in your face when doing such. blush
