Ok, Used to stop and eat at a place in Rockport back in the 90s,it was on the bay and I remember you had to go up some stairs outside to go in and it had a bayview dining area also.Anyone know if it is still there?
Any one recommend any places to get some good fried fresh fish and shrimp in Rockport? Maybe something like Castaways in Port A?
Thanks for any tips!

I can recommend places not to go. The Big Fisherman and Charlotte Plummers were not good the last time we were in Rockport. We had good meals at the Crab N, Latitude 2802, and The Boiling Pot. Latitude 2802 was the best, however it is pretty pricey. Crab N overlooks a canal and has stairs going up the front and has the feel of a local hangout. May be what you are looking for. Stay away from Big Fisherman and Charlotte Plummers.

For fried fish in Rockport, I go to Capt. Benny's. (BYOB and no credit cards accepted.)

For boiled fare, it's still The Boiling Pot.

I've been going to rockport to fish every year since '96 and have always have looked forward to eating at the big fishermans, good food at a fair price. Used to look forward to the crab N, but last couple times the food was off. Don't go to charlotte plummers.

I had Big Fisherman today. You can't beat their lunch specials!

They must change cooks at night. We ate there earlier in the year and it was not good at all. A lot of money for a lot of very below average food. It used to be great, but a lot of things have changed over the years.

We were down in Rockport the second week of March. Ended up at the big Chinese Buffet. Half the buffet was seafood. Lots of head-on boiled shrimp, oysters on half shell, crab legs, broiled fish. It was good, and best of all it was cheap. Aside from the BBQ I got from a little roadside wagon close to Tackle Town, it was the best food we had the whole week. We had fun, but our dining experiences were a bit disappointing.

I ate at the Big Fisherman a few times in the late 80's - early 90's. Back then was really good. Thats when they had the animals in the windows.

I have heard that since I was there last the place burned down and they rebuilt sans the animals.

Man, I love me some Boiling Pot. Nothing like a cold shiner and some hot seafood after a long day on the water.

I sometimes think you can get better seafood in SA than in Rockport. It's hardly like you were getting stuff fresh off the boat. I will second the negative comments made about Charlotte Plummer's and Big Fisherman. The men's room in Cap Benny's gives me the creeps. The Crab'N is the place to go, but it's a "white tablecloth" sort of place, and a little more pricey than the alternatives.
