I bought a spare tire lock and cable at BPS last year. Recently, I was going to take the spare off. The stupid key doesn't work in the stupid lock and the stupid cable is too stupid tough for my stupid little 12" hack saw. Question: Any suggestions on what to use to cut the stupid cable or the stupid lock? Lesson Learned - Note to Self: When buying next spare tire lock, make sure the key that comes with the stupid lock will actually open the stupid thing. Thanks.

Axman9,
I don't know how big the cable is....
But a 3 ft pair of bolt cutters shoud get it.
Or a small torch...If you were close, I would cut it for you...
Good Luck...

Ax, at least you were were not on the shoulder of a stupid two lane road with a stupid flat tire when you learned about the stupid key not fitting the stupid lock. I'd go with the 3 ft bolt cutters.

Bolt cutters should do it. Look on the bright side. No one else was going to get your spare either.

Bolt cutters like they stated above.
My Explorer has the spare tire located underneath the vehicle. There is a design flaw that makes the lock, even though it is encased in a plastic cover, to rust and freeze. The key will go in just fine, but the lock is frozen and will not operate.
I have no faith in being able to get the spare tire if I do have the need for it due to a flat.

You might take it to the nearest fire dept. They should have bolt cutters. Tom H

This is why everytime I lube my hubs I spray my tire lock and hitch lock keys with WD and work them a few times. Haven't had to torch or drill a lock since.

Glad I wasn't stupid enough not to try it until I had a stupid flat on the side of some stupid lonely road some stupid where. Only smart thing I've done is to try and unlock the stupid thing.

Oh, thanks for the suggestion about the ax. I tried that and missed the stupid lock and hit the stupid tire whereupon the stupid ax bounced back and hit the stupid operator in the head and knocked him stupid. Not really but I thought that entertaining.
