I was wondering if Gulf Shores is as nice as the Destin FL area as far as water clarity and white beaches. I drove to Destin a couple years ago and loved the location but hated the drive. I would like to shave a couple hours off if Gulf Shores is just as nice. I have done some research and see that Gulf Shores is not a part of the Emerald Coast. Does that alone answer my question? Thanks, Mike

Gulf shores is just as nice in my opinion....it is a popular and will be crowded....Between the two is Perdido Key. It's just across the state line....We were there on the 4th of July a few years ago...On the beach there was no one within 200 yards in either direction. It's got a lot of places to eat/go out and is driving distance to P-cola. The sand was white and the water crystal clear. I would suggest that place if you would like a smaller crowd.

Yes, there are houses. We stayed at a small set (about 6) of condos that shared a dock on the bayside. We walked across the street (main hwy) right onto the National Seashore.

I've stayed there a couple of times. The farther away from Gulf Shores and closer you get to Ft. Morgan the less crowded it becomes. Plenty of homes to rent in the past. I always just fished the surf and never had any problem catching plenty of fish.
I make it through the day by dreaming of my next trip to Port A.

Gulf Shores is great. Orange Beach just down the road maybe better. Perdido Pass at OB is a great place to fish. Take a kayak offshore for kings and sharks. It's a blast
Razzorduck Better tighten that drag boy, He's gonna spool ya!
