Ok, here's the deal, we all know a few years ago the finesse jig made its way to Texas. It will absolutely catch fish, and big ones, but as far as us Texans go, the finesse jig doesnt really caiter to our needs. Small hooks being the main thing. So I have been working with a Jig company to design the perfect "Texas finesse Jig".
I would like to hear some of your thoughts and suggestions on this, what you'd like to see in a jig like this.

Well, it depends on what you consider a "finesse" jig.
I tie jigs and have tied 1/2-3/4oz jigs "finesse" style.
Is it the size, or the way the skirt is tied?
I love a 1/2oz football jig with a spider finesse type skirt. I think that and a 7/16 round head finesse jig is the perfect size bait and profile that will not sacrifice bites, but still have potential for those big bites.
Now, when its tough, for whatever reason, I downsize to a 5/16 or even a 3/16, and yes the size will drop some time, but the bites are there.
Im just curious on what makes a jig a "finesse" jig.

everything needs to be finesse except the hook look at the terminator T-1 jigs for an example. i dont like the way the eye is on the terminator ones, though. i would rather have the eye like black angel does on thier jigs. basically- take thier 1/4 ounce flipping jig and cut off half the weight, and trim the skirt down. i like to flip finesse jigs on braid under docks. they could call it the "mini-me" to thier bigger jigs

I usually have a heavy wire hook even in my finesse jigs because I fish braid.

HI everyone , new guy here, MY .02
I really like the Picasso spider jigs with the offset shank type hook, I actually use them and cut back the skirt finesse style. With that angle on the hook, they breath on it and their mine.
Other than that style, I would love to see a "finesse" style jig with a big 4/0 or even 5/0 hook in it, with just the jig downsized. (think eakins jig with a 5/0 BMF hook).

I thought a finess jig would be 3/16 or lighter with a 2/0 hook, but not actually a light wire hook.

What I would like to see Standard on a finesse jig.
Rattles (Strike Works) Wire trailer keeper (similiar to terminator) Heavy Wire EWG hook. Brush Style Weedguard (I hate the metal ones) a couple of variations in head designs (not just round) Full skirt options, not just a collard skirt

I thought a finess jig would be 3/16 or lighter with a 2/0 hook, but not actually a light wire hook. my interpretation of a finesse jig is the profile of the bait. You can take a 5/16, 3/8, or even 1/2 round or football head and make a collar skirt, trimmed and it has a much smaller profile. Its heavier though so you could fish it at deeper depths. or take a small 3/8 jig head and still have full skirt, but cut the skirt down to where its basically just a small finesse full skirted jig, it has a smaller profile. In no way do I claim that is accurate information, just the way I perceive a "finesse" jig. I fish 7/16 round and 1/2 footballs, but with a small collared skirt trimed down often. I think its good when you have a good trailer with good action like a netbait paca craw or chunk.

I have not delt with many finesse jigs here in South Texas ,But it seems to me you would want a lite wire hook , smaller profile jig to be fished on lite line. A small football or round head jig should do. Just like any other finesse style the key to it working is that is small. Just my $.02 worth.
