Just received an e-mail from BASS that the Women's Bassmaster Tour has been cancelled due to low participation. This pretty much bums me out. All ladies who have paid entry fees or deposits will be getting them back.

I feel bad for all you. Its hard enough to get into a position where you can follow a dream, now left to start all over.

My wife is pretty upset, she had just got started in the Co-angler division and we had already paid all the deposits for 2010!
I can imagine how some of the boaters feel after spending a fortune on boats and equipment!

Very sad indeed. It was handled all wrong in my opinion. I wrote an email last year to BASS and ESPN about the poor coverage/promoting of the tour. The response I got was the usual bull you get from everyone when they don't want or know how to respond. I cancelled my membership because of this.

I do have a question. How did that lady from South Africa get to fish with the guys? There must be a story 'cause she didn't even look like she could Pitch.

Thanks. I just noticed that she did not look comfortable or very accomplished compared to the top U.S. women I've seen.

Wow. You guys amaze me. Its all BASS's fault? So you think if there was a Superbowl ad, tons of coverage daily on Sportcenter, lifetime and on Extreme home makeover, that they would reach the 100 boats they needed when they were getting about 60ish?
MAYBE if they dumped millions into it they would get 20 more boats. Still not enough to break even. With all the boats in peoples driveways there are just not that many TOURNAMENT Women.

Last Check they do not advertise the BASS OPENS AT ALL. The WBT got more coverage. Am I upset Sure. My wife was going to fish them next year. Point is stop blaming BASS because they didnt do you YOUR! way.
No one stopped you from taking your wife out and getting her on tour. There is 10% of the boats all the millions BASS advertising would have gotten. Oh second thought. Try FLW. I hear they take GREAT care of the loyal team members.:D

It would have been nice to have a head's up from BASS. I had already registered for this year with NO clue that this was coming. Do you know how difficult it is for a woman to get fishing sponsorships? Does a man really want to use a product because a woman is using it? C'mon...maybe if BASS didn't have us fishing rivers for every tournament, there may be more women willing to pay the $650 per tournament, plus travel, time off work, hotel. The payouts in the womens tour were not enought to support a full time career.

When's the last time the womens trail went to Falcon, Amistad, Fork, or any of the large fish lakes...what did we fish, Oushita River, Lake Maumelle, please.....P.S...not all women watch lifetime and not all women wait for their husband to "take" them fishing! I will be looking to fish opens this year because I enjoy the competition. Oh and by the way, GO PAM!!

A man might not want to buy a product from a ladies advertising event, but I would as a woman. If anything gives me an edge on fishing, and it is in my price range, I will use it. I have bought stuff from men's advertisements as well. If I think the fish want it, I will try to buy it.

You should tell BASS where to find all these Ladies. Because they honestly can't. Last check you should be able to fish anywhere and everywhere and NOT cherrypick.

And I never said all ladies are to be found on those areas. The problem is that less than 25% of BASS members are Women. So you need to add NEW women to the sport. The women fishing Already know about the WBT and it doesnt look like they are interested unless BASS is willing to fish where and when they want.

They did cherry pick due to the fact that Academy was the sponsor so the weigh in HAD to be at an academy. At Lake Maumelle the females were asked to drive for 45 minutes after each day of fishing to weigh in their fish. That's rediculous. Why not have the weigh in at the ramp like the men do, that way they could have fished at any lake.

The WBT started in 2005 and I didn't find out about it until 2009 so it isn't that advertised and there are certainly no information or broadcasts about it. To see our weighins you had to watch streaming video on the internet. I will find another tournament to fish with men so I can get a better payout.
