Hello, Im going to be headed up to Waco this month to take my pro to an AR-15 shooting competition. I love smallmouth fishng and usually go to Belton. I have had good success at Belton.
However, TPWD website talks so good about the smallies on Whiteny. But, I have heard from various people that alot of whitneys smallies died do to a golden algae and that Belton was currently better,
Does anyone know if whitney smallies are good again. I would like to go if they are, but dont want to waste my time if Belton is still Better.
Please let me kniw somthing!

Yep, Belton is gonna be better than Whitney nowadays for Smallies...
There are still smallies in Whitney and the population is rebounding from years of GA but Belton has a healthier population right now !!

few and far between...they are in there, but I wouldnt plan a trip around them. Best bet is to fish largemouth in the same areas smallies tend to be, and you will get one here and there.

Well, if yall are telling the truth, than your comments are the same as I keep hearing. Belton is better right now.
I wonder why the TPWD web page still acts like Whitney is so great for smallies? I have fished Belton so I know it has catchable populations. Like I said, I targeted them only last time and caught more than a limmit!

Please let me kniw somthing! Well, just got back from my first ever trip to Belton and I loved it! That lake is easily the most beautifull lake that I have ever fished. I was amazed over how little boat pressure was on that lake, being so close to major populated areas, but I am okay with that. I only wished I could have stayed longer.
Began fishing at about 7:30am! But in at the Temple ramp and went across to a mainlake point. Started off throwing a crawfish color crankbait, no bites. Switched to a tiny super spook, no bites. Dad, got bit on senko rigged weightless but missed fish, I picked up my wacky rig and began throwing the senko too. 7:45, I hooked up with first fish, a nice smallie that came off of an isolated patch of stickups off the point in about 15 ft of water. Fish was about 2 lbs. Worked point for about 30 more minutes with several more bites, but no fish.
8:15, ran across main lake to another point/shoreline that had a pump intake off of it and a big water fall. The water fall was beautifull. Began throwning senkos in the area of moving water resulting from the waterfall into the lake. Dad had bite but no fish. 8:30, I tied on a pearl white X-Rap and within two cast landed another solid smallie, about 2 lbs. Continued casting down shorline and soon caught a toad smallie near the corner of the point off the X-Rap, about 3.5 lbs, my biggest ever smallie!! 9:00, went back to the moving water from the water fall, saw large schools of minnows, brother caught large white bass off of an X-Rap, but no more bass!!
9:30, headed towards damn area and stopped at some random point before the Marina. Between 9:30 and 11:00 we all caught small LMB and Spotted bass with the senkos along the shoreline ledges, rocks, and slopes. All fish were caught within 10 ft! I landed 4 spots myself, one almost went 2 lbs! Very cool, I havent caught spots for a long time!
11am - 11:30, went to the point right there across from the marina and picked up the X-Rap again. Landed several small LMB around the point with the X-Rap. 11:45, worked way around point and down shorline that ended in a small cove next to a boat ramp. The shorline had a nice ledge that dropped off deep, continued with X-Rap. Caught one more little smallie, this smallie was almost completly black, it was the darkest smallie Id ever seen. 12pm, back to the ramp, forced by my dad and brother, I was not ready and haveing too much fun!
My totall fish: 4 smallies, 4 spots, and about 6 LMB. Largest fish was 3.5 lb smallie! I did have a limit, mixed between smallies, spots, and LMB. All fish were caught on either x-raps or senkos. (My dad and brother probably caught 10 fish combined as well but no smallies!)
Thoughts: I had a very fun day. I got to catch several smallies and spots, something that doesnt happen much for us south TX guys! Though the biggest fish was 3.5 lbs, we didnt catch too many fish under 14 inches. The lake was very pretty and rewarding, I cant wait to go back! MeSkeeter (FlippinTX), just do what you did earlier this year at Belton and you will do fine again.........
