Planning on kayak fishing Lake Austin Friday and the Guadalupe west of I-35 on Saturday. Anyone have any pointers or info? Thanks!

I use to float the Guadalupe often. We would usually put in at the 2nd bridge about 2 miles East of Waring and float to the Sisterdale Hwy bridge. There's a fair amount of Guadalupe Bass to be caught.
The Guadalupe from Canyon Lake to New Braunfels is good rainbow trout fishing. Maybe someone else can narrow down some areas of that stretch of river, as I haven't fished it too much.

Dunlap pool is below the 35 bridge (there is a ramp),and I have caught numerous bass in that area, and it is really more suited for bassin than up the river toward the dam, but you are in a kayak, and that may open up some things I don't know about. The lake I speak of is rather long, and has some awesome areas of pads and grass. Good luck.

If kayak fishing the guad. west of 35, i would rec. putting in at the new pick up location for rockin r tube rentals if you know where that is. If not it is kind of hard to find, there are other places to launch, but that is by far the best place, you can back your truck down a concrete ramp and drop your yaks right in the water. Lots of good bass in that area, largemouth, smallmouth, and guadalupe bass. If interested in putting in there PM me and i will give you more detailed directions, PS, one of my favorite places to fish from a kayak.

I put in at the I-35 bridge at 6:30 AM and portaged around the dam; put back in and immediately caught a 1 1/2 lb. Guad or hybrid. Continued catching fish, usually 3/4 to a 1 lb with a 1 1/2 lb large mouth mixed in all the way up to Cypress Park. Floated back down to the Comal and really started catching Guads... all small, some tiny but so much fun. Finished it off with a 2 lb black on the deep side of that island between the falls and I-35. Pulled out at 5:30 PM. All fish caught on a 3/8 chartreuse spinner bait, silver and bronze Colorado blades with a neon chartreuse YUM grub trailer. Fish all day long... it was a blast!

i grew up fishing that stretch of river and it is a blast. only place on the river where you can get away from all the people. a wieghtless wave worm is money on that stretch.

For Lake Austin I would recomend putting in at Mary Quinlan park. Its way up on the end of the lake close to Mansfield dam and will have alot less pleasure traffic than other areas of the lake. Since you are fishing in a kayak I will give you fair warning that the much deserved nickname for Lake Austin is "Wake" Austin. There are usually quite a few wake boats out there no matter what time of year so be careful.
