I'm heading to Amistad next weekend and looking for a little help. Just wondering what the fish are doing and some general areas to target.

I usually put in at the Diablo East ramp its nice , but its a long walk up to get your truck. Im not sure what the current conditions are now, but My opinion is you can almost always catch fish deep in Amistad. Ive been to Amistad 5 times and I always catch some fish on a zoom 10.5" watermelon seed monster worm. I fish it like a carolina rig and have good success. Im not sure if there is still hydrilla on the lake now, but if there is a blade or crank bait following the hydrilla line also produces well. Hope that helps a little...

The couples state championship finished up today. Over 36# won it (two day 5 fish limit each day) with big bass a little over 10#. Lots of 3-8 lb. fish were also brought in. Either shallow, less than 5 ft. in the pondweed with deep water access right on it, punching hydrilla in 25 ft. or hitting secondary points going into the creeks. That pretty much was the pattern this weekend. No telling what this cold front is going to do. Hope it makes it even better. I worked their weigh-in, and only 3 fish came in dead. Kudos to the couples for their excellent fish care !

I can tell you personally if your going to hit the pondweed, make sure you have the stringy, silk looking stuff and hydrilla mixed in it. Find that and your on it. Deep water access right on it. Priceless !

I have a club T (Anglers Bass Club) saturday, but will be around friday or anytime after our meeting after our T at the lodge saturday. Usually around 5pm is when we finish the meeting. Here's a better update. Went out this morning, close to 60 fish. Could do no wrong with a pointer 78 in ghost minnow (LuckyCraft jerkbait) up in 5-15 ft. next to hydrilla beds. Couldn't have had a nicer morning. The young boy that was with us had a blast. He reeled in a bunch of them. Biggest went around 5 1/2 with a ton of 3's. My arms still kinda feel the burn. LOL. Took the hooks off my big amazon topwater so I wouldn't hook anything (do that in practice) and had a huge one in less than two feet try to take it away from me. Had to actually jerk the rod tip to make it let go. Had 4 other blow-ups in the same areas as stated above. This was all from 8am-12 noon. What a blast !

Man, Do I really believe in the fishing calendar on Weather.com. It calls for outstanding fishing today and tomorrow, but slowing down going into the weekend.

Thanks for the great report and update - Feel like I can win the tourney and I have not been to Amistad this year. I hate the fact I still have to work tomorrow.

All i can think about is fishing.
