Tried here this evening with the kids, and didn't have any luck. There is HUGE amount of shad in the water, I have never seen as many shad packed so tightly in one area, each throw of the net resulted in about a gallon of 3" shad, and using my landing net near the wall got me about two dozen 6-8" shad. We tried cut and whole shad, and didn't have any luck, but only stayed a few hours.

Use a rigging where you know you will lose the sinker but still catch the flatheads. Loseing a few sinkers is well worh a few big flatheads.

Fished at the LotP spillway about 5 hours Sunday, tried about 4 different spots, with different shad presentations (whole 3", 6", and various cut sizes) and only caught one dink. In fact, out of the probably 20 people there, the only ones catching anything were three guys fishing for yellow bass, and they caught a steady stream of 6-8" long yellow bass.

The spillway bottom is rip-rap, so you will lose either the hook or weight nearly every cast, and I think the water is moving just too fast right now, that and the fact that there is a BUNCH of area under water nearby, flooded, they might be up in the shallow flooded timber nearby, feeding.

Lastly, there is so much shad in the water. I have never seen so much shad packed in a small area, setting on the bank, you can see schooled shad swimming by non-stop, and they extend out into the water as far as you can see. People were taking regular minnow dip nets and catching about a gallon of shad per dip. It was crazy.

The shad are the key.. there are so many shad that the fish are well fed and not having to forage much for a meal..
