Fished Sunday and Monday on Whitney....
Sunday afternoon, it drizzled / rained most all afternoon, and the wind was about 10.. BUT, the birds and the fish were up... caught some on Hot Spots and some on Spooks... Spooks were lots of fun, the fish were jumping out of the water and landing on top of them... just crazy... Sunday afternoon was really busy... one after another.
Monday was slower, no rain and wind was down... nearly calm... we caught a few in the morning on Spooks, just like Sunday, though the fish were a bit bigger.... We only had one really nice striper but it was fun....
The whites were good sized fish and all keepers...
Did catch one 3-4 lb black on a rocky point...
Might have to fish more in this rain... Lots of birds / gulls. Even big cranes and pelicans were out diving. Saw on eagle or big hawk dive from way up - came straight down and took up a pretty good sized fish in his claws... an amazing sight.

I went out bass fishing sunday morning and saw a bald eagle sitting at the very top of a tree over the water...amazing. It was in the King Creek area. Then I saw a big owl sitting under a ledge.
neat day.

I donno.... I have talked to both The Brazo River Authroity and the Corp of Engineers... I can't tell what they are going to do with the Lake... the BRA is selling water in the river and lakes below PK... and holding water in PK... The Corp gives the old Burroughs salute.. they don't know.... I can't figure out why the lake hasn't come up with the rains...
I also can't figure out why the Corp would close Cedron Park when it had the access to one of the few ramps that were open and only one of the two manned by the Corp (some protection against theft)... and I can't figure out why the Corp is not doing work to lengthen some of the existing ramps... (maybe they are and I haven't noticed)...
Just strange stuff down there... water management, ramp management... gov'ment stuff.... no way to figure it.

armadilla, as far as the fishing is concerned great report! on another note though, did ya'll catch them strictly on topwater or ya'll using any other methods, aka slabs, trolling, bait, ect.? Again, thanks for the report.

I don't know what you can interpret by the release numbers, but Granbury shows a release of 1113(cfs) while Whitney shows 25(cfs). (as of this morning) That tells me that Whitney will be on the rise. Having said that, I think that those flows probably fluctuate a lot during any rainfall periods. Here's the link to the release numbers: http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/reports/fish.htmTom

Well, Sunday and Monday, we fished strickly Spooks (top water) and 1/2 ounce hot spots / rattle traps.... but the fish were schooling and right up on top.. easy pickings....
Today, we went to Aquilla first thing. The water is UP... it is about 3 or 4 inches over the top of the ramp at Dairy Hill, so I know it is way over the ramp at Old School making it unusable... the lake was muddy. I don't like to fish it when it is that high.. lots of trash in the lake and I don't have much luck in the muddy water.
We went on to Whitney and fished there... There were no birds out at the lower end of the lake.. NONE... but a lone eagle tree sitting.... The lake has come up about a foot and a half.. it is down 9 1/2 feet now.. looked as though the Corp had rased the courtesy dock at Loafer's Bend. The water temperature has increased since Sunday (68 degrees then).. It was 73 degrees today... On the way up to Bee Cove we notice a large muddy area in the middle of the lake... but at the lower end of the lake and up near Bee Cove the water was fairly clear... some trash on the lake.
We fished rocky points for bass with worms and crank baits.. a few taps at the 20' depth on the deep points.. fish were on the ledges, but we didn't manage to hook up any.... Later in the day we fished a little while for the whites / sandies... There were a half dozen or so boats fishing for them further up the lake... closer to Bee Cove.... lots of tap-taping and lots of yelling and carrying on... don't know if they caught anything or not...But hey, those guys were having fun. We found fish around the 20' to 30' depth... looked to be whites and stripers, but did not get any hits....
Today was a bust for us.... did not boat a single fish... very foggy this morning, but calm.. just couldn't see very far... fished the bank. By 10:30 or 11 it cleared and was still calm... found fish in the channel along Loafer's bend... in the 30' to 40' range.. but they didn't hit slabs...

Eagle on guard in Loafer's Bend... Wednesday.... Have not heard the story about dam repair... if that's the case, they are taking their sweet time.

I'm heading to Whitney in the AM, last time I was there it was Spring, can anyone tell me what ramps are good on the lake, we normally fish mid-lake to south end, but I wouldn't mind fishing the north end for a change.
