What baits do you prefer to use when targeting Channel Cats on Rod & Reel? How about on Trotline/Jug?

Has anyone ever tried Bacon before on jugline?

I carry 9 baits when I go out. Opus is right find them then narrow it down to the best performing bait it's usually 2 for me.

Get a good high quality punch bait, Sure Shot, Mr. Whisker's out of Grandbury TX, or something simular and throw out a little chum every once in awhile (do not over chum and do not scatter the chum) if you are in water over about 8 - 10 feet drop the chum straight down and fish straight down on top of your chum, just lift your weight slightly off the bottom to better feel the light bites, and you will do well. Try different depths and don't forget to look for birds in the trees and fish the water beneath them. Good luck.

Well I am new to the forum, but I spend a lot of time fishing the bottom of Belton Lake for Channel Cats and originally being from up north I found Chicken liver to be the best bait all around. Never believed in Chumming the water...that must be a Southern thing.

Most people don't like chicken liver because they can't get it to stay on the hook. I have found a piece of thread about 2 inches long wrapped around the hook will do just that.

i got turned on to some stuff called "sonny's" and lemme tell you... it freakin works, i can barely get my line tight before i got bites.. so far all i've found are dinks (i have no luck lately) but i catch dink's (alot of blue dinks) every cast with sonny's...

I have used Sonny's dip bait for several years now and it is very hard to beat. It is a good sticky bait and I have caught blue cats up to 20# on it. One of the best things about it, is that it does stay on your hook better than most dip baits when you have to cast it out a long distance.

yup, sonny's is awesome.. i went out to martin creek lake today and could hardly sit down, i'd cast out, and get nibbles soon as i got my line tight..

the place i got it in longview stopped carrying anything else, said thats one of the things people come there for now more than anything else, to stock back up on sonny's.. i got a decent size bucket for 13.50+tax at east texas sonar in longview. not sure what places carry it elsewhere.
