I went to the Weatherford barge. The place was full of tobacco smoke. Is that common on area barges? I have a health related issue to second hand smoke and had to leave the barge after a time. Would it be asking too much for those who wish to smoke to step outside?

I can see both ways. I am a smoker, and will not stand right next to someone when I am smoking. I'm sure one day it will be like every where else. NO SMOKING!. Maybe then I would be able to help. You have your courtesy smoker and you non.

oltom, I am afraid you are SOL. I don't know of any barges that don't allow smoking. Weatherford may be worse than most, because there isn't any power ventilation, but even the ones with AC and heat don't eliminate the smoke. I am an exsmoker, but I would not want to ban smoking from the barge, because you would lose half of your customers.
There seems to an above average number of smokers who fish. We are a BAD bunch.

I was there this morning. It's only the third time I've been and the first time anyone lit up.

I was suprised at how quickly one cigarette could be noticed.

I grew up with parents that chain smoked. I never had a clue that it "smelled." After moving out for about ten years, I can't believe I never noticed.

I'm not ridiculing smokers (although... wink ) I will usually get up and move if it bothers me. If smoking is not prohibited, then I can find someplace else myself.

oltom,

This is the worst offender there. You have made a great point, I smoke like a freight train when fishing, and until they ban it inside, or if the person close to me ask me in a respectful way, I will continue to smoke while fishing inside.

I have only had one person ask me if I would mind not smoking inside due to his health problems, and I admire him for letting me know. I have never smoked around him again. But I am sure there are others, many perhaps that want the same thing, unless they ask me, I will continue to smoke while fishing.

I understand your situation, but unless you let someone know, there will be others like me that you will resent for doing something, that perhaps is not socially acceptable, is still allowed by the owners and management there.

But you are right about how thick the air gets in there, and as Goose pointed out, there is no ventalation in there, no where for the smoke to go. With both doors closed and every window closed when its real cold, man it looks from the outside like they are curing meat in there, a little smoke here and there seeping out of various small cracks or openings.

So speak up in a respectful way, few would continue I think if where to ask them, until then, you will continue to suffer.

Mike, now you have done it! You're going to get 100 posts asking you to not smoke.

But I'm going 1st.

Mike, please don't smoke inside. laugh laugh

Kev, if you're gonna dip? Use Copenhagen and bring enough for everybody. laugh laugh

Dave and I talked about how the smoke was hovering on Thursday. Just like it did when our dads smoked in the house when we were growing up. Dave even suggested he might have to wash his coveralls and everybody knows you don't wash coveralls except in extreme situations. laugh laugh laugh

Too late for you Brad, or any other regulars that never asked before, I know you can take it, so deal with it. A fireman worried about a little smoke laugh laugh

Joe Pool is no smoking. If I am at a barge that allows smoking I will smoke. If someone ask me politely to not smoke close to them. I will move while I smoke. Or stand at the window and smoke if it raining. But people will not know unless you ask. But be nice about it. If someone came up to me and was rude about it I will not move. I am not saying anyone on here would be rude about it but I have had rude people come up to me about it. I agree the barge does look like a bar sometimes.

Hey Mike how did you do?????????

Cool Joe pool will get my business.
I can't take my son fishing in the winter time at Ray Hubbard due to the smoking inside.
