Grown grandson and I are heading for Beavers Bend Wed--Fri of this week.
We have everything but the kitchen sink lined up to be loaded in his full size extra long Dodge crew cab.
Food ranges from fresh fruits to steak, beans, energy bars, jerky, etc
We will be at a tent site right next to the water.
Any suggestions about Beavers Bend or anything I might need to know?

drive north on 259 for about 15 miles or so until you come to an area called The Narrows. Ask anyone around there and they can tell you how to get to it. It's a low water bridge on the Mountain Fork. Good small mouth fishing. Drive a little further north from that to the town of Octavia. Just passed the town and passed the 259/144 intersection, on the left, you'll see a low-water crossing that crosses the Eagle Fork. Good small mouth fishing. If you've got a good map or GPS, when yourre going north on 259 and come to the HWY 4 intersection turn east and go through the town of Smithville. A few miles on down you'll come to a town called Watson. Turn back south on some of those logging roads until you come to a low water crossing at Buffalo Creek. Good fishing there too. You'll get lost if you're not careful. Make sure you have plenty of gas. I wouldn't waste my time in the park for fishing. I have GPS coordinates for most of the good places up there, but I don't have them here at home. If interested, let me know, and I'll send them to you. All the places I like to fish up there are wade fishing areas for small mouth.

Excellent suggestions on Sancho's behalf. Don't forget bring dark colored spinners such as Rooster Tails and curl tail grubs in pumpkinseed and motor oil. Green gourd is another good choice. There is a decent cafe in Smithville on Hwy. 4 about a mile east of 259. A lot of people fish with large minnows at the Narrows and do quite well. I have seen some nice catfish caught there on minnows just below the waterfall. Boy, I sure wish I was going. One last tip, to blend in a little better, be sure you drink a bunch of cheap beer and smoke a pack or two of cheap cigarettes and throw all your trash down on the bank and into the river. That way the locals will think your a good ol' McCurtain County boy.

Try Geocaching....great place to get the youngster into GPS and hiking around. Check out the geocaching website before you leave. http://www.geocaching.com/

Thanks Old Town.
Hey Bass Bustin, I been taking the kids Geocaching for over 4 years now.
My handle on the forum is chuckwagon101
We don't have a lot of finds, 30 something, but the kids love it when we go.
We hit that looooooong strip down towards Greenville along some "trail" I forget the name of it. Anyway, it was a blast walking the trail and signing the logs. I never got around to logging all that we found.

Cool deal! I never looged them in either. We stumbled upon our first box and since then we find them everytime we go back. Lot's of fun and give you something to walk too!

Thanks for the post about caching!
I was not EVEN thinking geocaching until I saw your post...now I have 9 caches to grab in the park itself.
There are many more in the area but 9 will be my limit...what with me fishing and cooking and whatever!!

Sancho - great information! I would love to have those GPS coordinates, although, I may never make it up that way anytime in the next few years. If you don't have any problems with it, you are welcome to PM me with that information!

This is a pic of our camp on Broken Bow Lake. It was about 5 miles from Beavers Bend Park.
We caught a small flathead (8 lbs or so) the first night and tons of big bream.
The second morning we caught a bunch of small mouths about 12 to 16 inches. They hit in a shallow area near an old boat ramp. The water there is crystal clear.

After trying unsuccessfully to hook up with a fly rod, I caught quite a few nice rainbows at Beaver's Bend a few years ago on NetBait finesse worms in green pumpkin candy, fished on a shakey head with a spinning rod...
