Has anyone used the Pertronix elecronic ignition that replaces the points in the distributor? Besides being more reliable it is supposed to increase your spark some?? I know a fair amount about motors in general, but the ignition systems I don't understand too well.
Anyone use one on an OMC or Mercruiser 350 (5.7)?
Also, is there any gain or loss in HP going from a through hub exhaust to a through hull?
Thanks.

I have assisted with Pertronix Ing Systems installation on vintage Muscle Cars. Contact TFF Member Liteliner.. he is a cert mech and has OMC/Mercruiser experience. He knows Pertronix products well.
Headers will give you an increase in HP but it also give you 2 more holes in the hull with the possibility to leak.

Pertronix replaced the old Perlux kits that had a lot of problems. The kits are pretty easy to install and will not give you more spark unless you bypass the ignition resistor. I would rather install a complete GM HEI distributor. Yes their is a difference in HP going to the through hull exhaust and the outlets with flapper valves will be above the water line. Its just pretty expensive to convert, look at the Silent Choice system.

I would rather install a complete GM HEI distributor. If you install a GM HEI remove the resistor also. It is designed to run at 12 volts & higher.

Thank you for the comments guys! Much appreciated.
I also appreciate the information on the GM HEI ignition, good to know that I have choices for electronic ignition.
Thanks Again!
