Well this might seem like a silly question but I trust you guys.
I have a Minnkota (sp) 2 bank charger I just installed, I was told to leave it pluged in all the time. My neighbor said unplug after the batteries charge that it will burn up the batteries......
What do you guys do with yours........thanks
Dennis

Plug it in a day or two before you use the boat and then after you get back home from using it.

I have mine on a timer. When I get home, bypass the timer till next day then it's on four hours a day.

I am sure it has a cut off when the batteries reach full voltage, but they can and do fail. I plug mine in immediately when I get back from the lake and them unplug it the next day. I then plug it in as needed. Leaving them plugged in is a waste of electricity.

the minn kota is auto, I have a 3 bank and it shuts the juice off when charged, I leave mine plugged in to keep them topped off.

If you use the boat during the summer and you fish at least every 10 days you will not hurt your batteries at all by charging them up and letting them sit. Try it though and see. If you charge your batteries up after fishing, let it sit a week(if possible) and then turn the charger back on. My money says they will show to be fully charged again within minutes.
In the winter the same thing for AGM batteries. I have left them fully charged for two weeks in the cold and when I turned the charger on the thing cut off within seconds.

For peace of mind, put it on a timer to come ON/OFF as you see fit.
I'm just not comfortable leaving mine ON 24/7 when I'm not at home should there ever be a problem.
