Keep in mind that the Structure Scan will only work on the new HDS units as they are the only units that have video memory needed to allow the Structure Scan to work. I have had the opportunity to use one of the units for a couple days while filming a TV show and you guys are in for quite a treat. This will be the biggest change to sonar that has hit yet. For those of you who have Dish Network, on Wednesday August 19th go the WFN, channel 394 at 5:30 PM PST and watch Jarrett Edwards Outdoors "Lowrance Lessons".

Besides a view to each side of the boat, Lowrance's Structure Scan has a down view also. This is a similar view as the normal sonar picture we are used to seeing only in the most realistic view I have ever seen. In this screen you can use the arrow keys to go back into the history that has left the screen and set a waypoint on that object and then navigate back to it on your chart.

Here is a link to explain more.

I heard it would only be 150 dollars extra on top of a new HDS unit. Which I new which price was right.

I'm thinking the 699 is right.

One thing the Lowrance does that HB doesn't....network.

one SS module can service 3 HD units.

This is going to be hard to beat.

$600 is the right range. i would not run out and buy one immediately. i still truely believe, that lowrance will have at least some little discounted price with a "package" deal. but, maybe thats just me hoping.

i wouldnt think it would work with a chartplotter only unit as i dont think it has the sonar capabilites in the unit itself. however, i am no expert on any level what so ever.
