As some of you regulars know the sandies get on a pattern schooling close to the bank(all over the lake)but were talking about Murrell!
Got out there about 7:30 after dinner and it was non-stop til I left about 8:50pm.I was tired and a sweaty mess!
They started on the point and would flare up in a few spots but stuck pretty close to the point ,the problem was that they were pretty far out,I had a 3/4 oz rattletrap that I could get in the middle of the school but it was sooo big that they would only slap at it!Eventualy they would chase bait till they were close enough where I could reach them.I was traveling light so .I only had 3 combos one w/a 3/4 oz white rattletrap,a light spinning outfit w a 1/4 oz white rooster tail and another rod/reel w/a medium size green/yellow torpedo.
I forgot to mention I recently fractured a bone in my left foot,so I'm wearing this dorky biggo support boot!Anyways as the fish were moving around I'd hobble down the bank in pursuit, they were moving slow enough where I wasn't having to run,but hobble quickly grinI found pretty quick that the rig with the torpedo was the only one they wanted anything to do with and I could consistantly get it in the strike zone sooo thats what I used.Sorry got no pics, like I said I was traveling light, most of the couple dozen sandies I caught were keepers(I was releasing all)
I'm not making any promises but it looks like this might be a daily occurence? Most of the park is still barricaded from the flood a couple of years ago, guess they ran out of funds for repairs and clean-up,the road closest to the open boat ramp is open part of the way then you have to park on the shoulder and walk past the barricades to the point or where ever your gonna fish!Wading would be the method that would probably be the most effective, but with my foot,I'm gonna have to stay on dry land at least for a couple of more weeks.Oh yeah I almost forgot to say on the point there is quite a bit of vegatation growing along the banks and midway out away from the bank does cause a few problems getting stuck but may have to overlook that since I'm thinking that those areas are holding baitfish!
Thats my report!May try it again tomorrow,I'll be the tall dark, good looking guy limping around on the bank! grin

There are two spot on the fishing trails where you can pull up where you can see your car,but if you want to get to the point which is where most of the activity is,you hafta walk about equivalent of 2 short city blocks! To answer your question not yet! crying

Very cool! I need to get back out there. I haven't fished that spot in well over a year, at least.

Sorry about the foot.

I may try to get out there soon!

last time i was out the old man kicked me out when i walked past the barricades...he said something about the sheriff being called if I don't leave...funny thing is that I fished there numerous time but only that one day he had his panties in a bunch.

What a difference a day makes! My lil brother bought into the hype and went out with me tonite! bangnot a sandie one!
We did pick up half a dozen LMB on traps,so we didn't get skunked, but I was a lil disappointed, especialy after the great nite,I had Wed. almost a carbon copy so ????The only difference I can think of was two chicks and a dude swimming!but honestly they were soooo far away,I couldn't describe any of them! coolbut thats what I'm falling back on,we all know that it couldn't be that I don't know my butt from a hole in the ground or whatever that saying is!! bolt
So my report tonite is beware of any post you read on this forum and be extremly wary of anything I post! loco

quockie,I haven't seen that old man in a long time clapyeah he was a grouchy ole guy .They still act like you should recite the alphabet before they will push the button to lift the gate??Maybe they are lonely. In the winter time ,I didn't feel like I should have to carry on a conversation to get in the park soooo i didn't roll my window down, when I pulled up and just motioned for the attendant to lift the gate ,they finaly got my drift!Geez!!!

Is the point by the entrance to the park, or where is it at?

lol....the curse was upon me already....lol are you sure you didn't put the curse on me instead of Rudy?

Is it still a free park? Last couple of times I thought it was weird when the gate lady just sat there and looked at me when I pulled up like I was supposed to pay. hahaha...sat there and just stared at eachother for a few seconds and she asked me, "you fishin?" lol..duh! no boat, no trailer, not even a shirt....just open the got dang gate!

yes but you have to go thru the gate in the direction of the boat ramp and turn left at the road before you get to the ramp and walk a ways, the picnic tables are still stenciled on the concrete legs the one closest to the point is #3.
