to make thing go little faster and easier.
1. before you launch your boat turn your unis on. where the unit can do all its stuff. go threw the flash and load the mapping either lowrance or navionics, also where the gps can lock you on.
2. what once the mapping is up on your screen and doesn't say loading still. hold the zoom in key where you want it. example. like zoom in at 50-100ft. let it come up, it should come up 12-35secs. if doesn't come up back it up 500ft and let themap come up then zoom back in from there.
3. if you think your unit not tracking make sure the cross hair are not up, if so hit the exit key.

I got this this "SPOOKY" feeling that Medic may know what he's talking about. I think he's better than sales rep you talked to.

If you haven't loaded the updates your really only missing the Navionics maps update. Your unit won't read Nav. until you do. A Few of the menus changed to be a little more user friendly, but still work without the update.

oh i didnt meen to imply the rep was right by any stretch i guess i was trying to ask and failed does it hurt the transducer to run the hds5 out of the water?? cuz i would really like to sit there in the boat and fiddle with itrather than sit on the lake doing it and look like a tard. at least in my drive way my neighbors are already aware of my tardness so it wont hurt as much.

Just unplug the transducer when you're in the driveway and no worries.

heybaylor: Quite the contrary. If you would feel the transducer after it has been on for awhile you'll notice that is quite warm. If it isn't kept cool the quartz crystal will not expand evenly and fracture. Just like hitting the rocks with it.

ok , I will not ever turn it on out of the water again , going to be hard to break a 30 year habit tho ..
I guess I didnt know that a transducer was to be ran in a raised floor invironment.
I will also write lowrance ,and see if they will put that in large print "warning" in all of thier manuals.

Why don't you just stop the chart when the ducer is out of the water?

It's just not necessary.
I'm headed to Fork--just not fishing--playing golf tourney at Links at Lands End Friday, Sat, Sun. Wife duties.
